love the real estate that triple 23" 1920x1080 (5760x1080 total) offers when desktop publishing, however when it comes to gaming this extra wide 48:9 ratio implementation is piss poor.

many game simply do not support the "FIELD OF VISION" (fov) necessary for this extra wide ratio resulting the peripherial monitor becoming fish-eyed.

this extra wide ratio requires ~155 degree of fov. many of the current games only support ~90 degree and a max of ~110 degree.

option 1 (6.2MP). instead of landscape setup. change it to portrait setup. resolution is 3040x1920. Effectively 16:9.5 ratio.

option 2 (7MP). 30" 2560x1600 landscape center + two 18" 1600x900 peripherial portrait. net resolution is 4360x1600. Effectively 16:5.75 ratio

option 3 (8.2MP). 4k TV 3840x2160. Effectively 16:9 ratio (definitely out of the budget 🙁)

how many of you have switch back from surround to single 2560x1600 and never looked back?
 
I did. Went from a 2407 fpw to 3x 2005 fpw then to a 3007 HC and have been doing 30's since with occasional 120 hz venture here and there
 
As did I. I went from 2x Samsung 2443's and a Dell 2410 to a single Benq XL2411T for the 120Hz screen. I still want the additional screen space for work but I am fed up of surround not working in the grand majority of games. I have found a 120Hz modern TN screen much better for gaming.
 
I loved triple monitor for the most part, I HATED driver support messing with BS profiles and config hacks and all the time having to center my open windows. If AMD and Nvidia got together and implemented key things from each other the world of triple monitor would be a happy place.

See that is just the problem with these 2 rivals. The only thing they have ever worked on together is price fixing. 😎
 
I went from 3x24 1920 x 1200 each to 30" 2560 x 1600. Still trying to sell the 24s. While I loved having the extra space, games simply don't support triple monitor properly. Even the ones that specifically mention eyefinity will frequently have hud elements that are fixed to outer edges. It was far too frustrating to get things to work.

By the way, Option 2 in your list won't work. As far as I know neither AMD or Nvidia support mixed portrait and landscape setups for Eyefinity/Surround.
 
I enjoyed triple 1600x1200.

What is the ideal FOV for 4800x1200? I thought it was fine, so maybe using that less-wide, "square" resolution of 4:3 aspect ratio for each screen better corresponds to the overall FOV when in eyefinity?

Also, I recall there being an easy way to adjust the FOV, but maybe some games lock it down?
