Well, Eug, you see in my post I gave you a press release that Hynix made just a little more than 2 months ago selling 128Mb (8=128MB) DDR-SDRAMs for 10$ each. That means you would need 80$ to arm a card with 128MB of 375MHZ DDR-SDRAM. That means that 256MBit SDRAMS running at that frequency would probably be 20$, unless they've improved their process. That, times 8, would equal 160$. Or thereabouts. That's for 375MHZ RAM. At December last year's pricing. So now i've made up for that, right? ;)

Anyways, I can make a handy chart for all you guys (this is really simple math, so it's nothing new)

10NS=100MHZ
9.5NS=105MHZ
9NS=111MHZ
8.5NS=117MHZ
8NS=125MHZ
7.5NS=133.3MHZ
7NS=142.8MHZ
6.5NS=153MHZ
6NS=166MHZ
5.5NS=181MHZ
5NS=200MHZ
4.5NS=222.2MHZ
4NS=250MHZ
3.3NS=300MHZ
3NS=333MHZ
2.7NS=370MHZ
2.5NS=400MHZ
2.2NS=454MHZ
2.0NS=500MHZ
1.9NS=526MHZ
1.8NS=555.5MHZ
1.7NS=588MHZ
1.6NS=625MHZ
1.5NS=The devil's number. (Demonic RAM, hah! ;))
1.4NS=714MHZ
1.3NS=769MHZ
1.2NS=833MHZ
1.15NS=869MHZ
1.1NS=909MHZ
1.05NS=952MHZ
1.0NS=1GHZ

Hope that helps you if you're don't wanna spend the effort to calculate everything. ;) (Took me 5 min)

(Edit to switch to list format, instead of tables. Darn, this board doesn't use an equispaced system.

The information is indeed totally legit. Except it looks like they made a misate calling DDR-II - DDR

What you are really looking at is this MONSTER CARD!!!!!

-400mhz
-8 pipelines
-256mb 460mhz DDR-II
-30GB Bandwidth
-Smartshader 2.0++

And whatever other junk they toss in. In other words.. HOLY ****!!!! This card is going to kick the GFFX off the surface of the planet!

are you Hellbinder on rage 3D, nvNews and beyond 3D?

can they run that type of ddr2 on the 256bit bus or are they going back to 128?
i heard that 256bit ddr2 would cost rediculous amounts, and maybe doesnt even exsist...
just wondering

2.5NS=400MHZ
2.2NS=454MHZ
2.0NS=500MHZ
[snip]
I know the the equation, but those are not necessarily real life.

eg.
Pretty much all PC100 these days is 8 ns (125 MHz). I've had 10 ns "PC100" before which would only work (unreliably) at 100 MHz CAS3 if you overvolted it.
PC133 is 7.5 ns (133 MHz) for CAS 3 but 7 ns (143 MHz) for CAS2.
My Radeon 9100 at 230 MHz runs 3.5 ns (286 MHz) DDR, and it does not run artifact-free beyond 235 MHz.

That's why I'm thinking that if a 460 card were to exist, it'd would likely run 2.0 ns RAM.

True. But think about it this way, Eug.

The chips are probably capable of operating at 100MHZ. But what happens if the Bus is too noisy? Over volting it, would increase the distance between 1 and 0 in the equation and give a clearer signal pathway. A RAM rated to run at higher speeds might be able to handle the noisy bus better. That's just a theory, don't take it as gospel. But there is a posibility that 10NS chips are capable of running at 100MHZ at the chip level, but a PC100 board might not be capable of that at the board level.

That being said, it'd be smarter to use 2.1 or 2.0NS RAM just to give it headroom to work in those swealtering 'Silent cases' that Dell or HP engineers. If you have RAM with alot of headroom, it would most likely tollerate higher temperatures much better.

As Nvidia said, they clock their cards at the speed they're at (And most likely ATi too) for the best mix of stability and performance. A hot case is still gonna cause instability, but with a decent amount of headroom you shouldn't see heat related instability very often.

Yeah, but people often don't run at the most relaxed timings either. That's my point about the 3.5 ns 230 MHz RAM. I suspect that ATI prefers tighter timings, at least on some cards.

And when was the last time you saw 10 ns RAM in a 100 MHz FSB PC?

One time I saw a Hyundai PC100 stick overclocked to 150MHZ FSB. Does that count? ^-^

And yeah, it's possible that they're using tigether than normal timings, but isn't graphics more about bandwidth than latency?

But if Hynix just made a press release about 375MHZ DDRSDRAMs in the 128MB variety what's the chance they'd have 460MHZ RAMs ready 4 months later? Pretty slim, if you ask me.

When will reviews for the R350 video cards be released? I'm drooling over the specs already, but I want to see some reviews before I drool any further. :p

Here's a comparison I haven't seen anywhere in this thread (if I missed it, my apologies). In the first number the larger clockspeed is listed first i.e 325Mhz Cores w/ 310Mhz Memory. In the ratio in question, this ratio is reversed with the core speed being 400Mhz and the Memory clocks speed being 460Mhz? This SEEMS to be a typo with the memory being clocked under the core speed. But I will await official confirmation from NSF4...as everyone else is.

The best news though, is that ATI seems to be ready to rock 'n' roll with the R350 series which seems to be in-line with the targeted announcement date I recall seeing before of Mar. 12....waiting for those NDA's to end...

So...does tomrrow night mean today before Midnight...and is that EST or PST, or GMT, or WTFT or whatever....or is that wee hours of the morning as you upload the review with bloodshot eyes....lol...in other words...when do I have to be a loser and glued to my computer waiting fo the site to update :D
