Fibre Between Buildings

I want to extend an ethernet network between buildings and realize that fibre is the way to go. I can get media converters from Allied Telesyn, but what kind of cable/connectors should I use?

Where can I get 120m of fibre cable? The longest I have found is 50m. I would prefer to order from a place in Canada, but it really doesn't matter too much.

Anixter / Canada. I'm pretty sure they still have offices in Toronto & Montreal. They can do a custom cable to your spec, and offer advice (from the Tech Support folks) on what would be appropriate for your situation. They also will have the media converters.

Check their website www.anixter.com for location & phone numbers.

Good Luck

Wizkid, for what you're going to spend on media converters, look at buying some 10/100 + gigabit switches and GBICs, and running gigabit Ethernet over the fiber. It's likely to cost only a little more for a lot more interesting connection and switch capabilities. (Dell 3324/3348 + SX mini-GBICs for example).

You might be best off having fiber professionally installed, it's trickier than copper cable. You probably want dual-SC ends, and then use a small fiber patch panel (which might actually be a wall plate if your need is small). If you were to get a switch like the Dells that use mini-GBICs, you'll need some dual-SC to dual-LC adapter patch cables, if they use full-size GBICs, use dual-SC to dual-SC patch cables.
