Fiber question

I just started putting steel rolled oats, chia seeds and flax seeds in almond milk to soak overnight.

The fibers are obviously sucking up all the almond milk, but in doing that is that defeating the purpose of eating them?

I don't think so, unless there's something about almond milk that I don't know. Adding water to Metamucil doesn't defeat the purpose.

Lol great point!

I was just thinking it was the fibers ability to absorb water that made it so effective at 'cleaning' out your system.

No effect. In fact, high fluid intake will help with any digestive process. Eat and drink up!

It's kind of interesting that I can soak the oats and seeds in almond milk or water and then get the benefits of fiber and fluids in a snack.

I think a cup of the stuff caused me to use the bathroom 6 times yesterday.

How long ago did you start? When I first started plant based, which is extremely high in fiber, I was going a lot, but then it leveled out to once a day. Sometimes it takes your gut a little time to adjust, but high fiber diets are incredibly good for you.

I've been off and on with oats, chia & flax for a few months. I was mixing them with a Vega greens powder and then using them separately, but never tried soaking them before. I've also tried on and off Atkins and Quest high fiber bars. The Quest works better, but in both cases I'm not really into the millions of ingredients they use.

Going to get some psyllium powder to add in next.
