I hope I wasnt too snarky in my response. I am now wondering where these mods put a dart or a 500 in the quarter?

Nah, I do realize I've been pretty insistent with my devil's advocate, and general dislike for underpowered (for the $$) Euro cars.

At 2200lbs+ for the US Abarth, it looks like the stock 160HP nets around a 6.9-7.1 0-60 (a little difficult to find good numbers for this car). Given that FWD + light weight = traction issues easily with more power, that number probably isn't the easiest thing to improve, but I would think a boost to 200HP to drop things into the low 6s at the very best (no wheel hop, good launch, minimal traction loss).

If the Abarth came with 200HP stock, it would still be fairly expesnive for that kind of performance, but yet it is a bit different, and gets very adequate fuel economy. At the same time it makes me wish the Fiesta ST was available, or a Speed2. I could easily see myself driving either of those as a commuter, but can't see myself in a 500. Invoice on the '12 WRX starts at $24,100, so it's not a perfect overlap, but I do see why one would pay an extra $2k-$5k to get 265hp, huge mod potential, AWD, a bit of actual space, and a car that doesn't look like a gumdrop with wheels 😀

That article is very old and the transmission shift points have since been changed in a recent TSB. Those figures are very outdated. Right now 0-60 is in the mid 6 second range or better depending.

The article lists a mid 6 second time. Did you read it?

About a full second slower than a Mustang V6 in any case.

I wasn't addressing the Mustang comment. And I don't really care, I bought the v6 for the economy. Plus the charger is a full size 4-door sedan. I'd rather lose 1 second 0-60 and have more safety, room for my 2-year-old in the back, cavernous trunk space, better interior and better options.

Trust me, I almost went with the SRT but I'm going to wait for the 8-speed transmission before I consider trading up. Or I just might get a Challenger SRT in a year or two for weekends.

Heh. This reminds me of the other day. Some guy in a tC pulled up next to my 2012 charger v6 at a light and tried to race me. I simply floored it when it turned green and utterly destroyed him. It was amazing to watch how much distance he lost as he shifted gears. And I could hear his little engine straining through the goofy aftermarket exhaust. Meanwhile I was just shooting forward, the Z-F tranny switching through the gears with nary a skip. I hope he didn't think he actually stood a chance. He probably thought I was driving a 2011 or something. It was fun. I usually don't do this kind of juvenile red-light racing, but this guy was asking for it.

lol, wow, that must have been one slow ass race. It would have been hilarious if a Camry blew by both of you two. 🙂

That's the old one. Current generation v6 is 292 hp and 260-ft-lbs torque.

My numbers are accurate. It's 180HP short, and 210tq short of what it needs to be a proper car, along with having the mushy family sedan tuned suspension. I listed the three things it is missing.

It is missing proper suspension.
It is missing 180HP
It is missing 210tq

Hint, check the 6.4L output.

The Charger V6 isn't a race car, it is a sporty family sedan.

Very few cars can have 4 doors and still be race cars.

what's the Dart's 0-60?

Just bought a new Abarth from a Dealer that bought out a Mercedes/Fiat dealer that was going out. New dealer didn't want the Fiats and sold me a New Abarth (previously untitled - 100% full factory warranty) for near 1/2 sticker. Love It. Can't wait to see what goodies I can add to turn it from a little wild to slightly insane and the hit some hill climbs or do a little "fishing".
