Hey all, recently just purchased ff14 but my computer isn't able to run it that great. I have a dual core intel penti e2160 @ 1.80ghz. 4gb of ram and a 9800gt graphics card. What's my best bet on running this game on mid performance? Don't really want to upgrade my CPU but have about £150 to spend on a graphics card.

Could I overclock the CPU at all? Or is it not worth it? If I really have to what would you recommend for both the CPU and GPU? Cheers.

Not sure what to say,.... the game is very senitive to GPU performance.

Your PC is too slow really for this game, or any "modern" game. Overclocking your system wont help nearly enough.

The game uses 4 threads, so you ll want a CPU with 4 cores in it.

If your on a tight budget here is what you do:

Motherboard:
GIGABYTE GA-A55M-DS2 ~49$ (after rebate)

CPU:
AMD A6-3670K (Llano 2.7GHz quad core) ~79$ (after rebate)

Ram:
CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3 1866 (Model CMZ8GX3M2A1866C9) ~54$

GPU:

SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 6850 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 ~135$ (edit: think this is better buy than a 7770, once OCed)

Harddrive:
Seagate Barracuda ST1000DM003 1TB 7200 RPM ~89$

PSU (power supply):
CORSAIR Builder Series CX430 V2 (CMPSU-430CXV2) ~44$

Case:
Fractal Design Core 1000 Micro ATX Computer Case w/ 1 x 120mm fan ~39$

CPU cooler:
COOLER MASTER Hyper 212 EVO ~30$

DVD drive (sata (assumeing ur old pc doesnt have)):
ASUS Black 18X DVD-ROM 48X CD-ROM SATA DVD-ROM Drive ~18$

Cost for intire new pc = 537 $

--------Overclocking:
The 4 core Llano will come at 2.7ghz, but since its a K model,
you can move the multipler up, and get it running stable at around ~3.8ghz.
(this will be like haveing a phenom II @4ghz)

You should now have a much more enjoyable gameing experiance.

that cpu should overclock really well but your cpu is not all that fast clock for clock. even a good oc on that cpu would probably only make the game just barely playable on decent settings. they recommend a 2.66 Core i7 or better and gtx460 768mb just to smoothly play at 1280x720 on settings that are not even fully maxed.

wow I just ran the benchmark on high settings and it was smooth with all four cores but a stuttery mess with just two core of my 2500k. that seems odd that two cores of a 2500k at 4.4 would have trouble with such a simple looking game. even on low settings it was not very smooth with just two cores and they were basically pegged the whole time.

Yeah this is one of those games that really doesnt like "not" haveing 4 threads.
Its about how the game is optimised, if its ment to have 4 cores, then no matter how fast 2 cores you have are, it wont be enough.

I found some youtube videos (guys with camcorders filming the benchmark), looks like for 1080p:

Phenom II @4.0ghz + 5870@900mhz = ~4800 score.
Phenom II @3.6ghz + 460 1gb OC = ~3500 score.

6088 on high.

Except, looking at the graph, it looked framerate capped, so it's likely artificially low.

If you are on a tight budget I would go with the build arkadrel suggested

core 2 quad 9550 2678 on high it ran pretty smooth. uploaded cpu loads as well.

if he oc'd to 3.2ghz (easy for that CPU if his mobo can do it) I bet his CPU would be fine.
well he would need to buy a cpu cooler too for that. and if two cores of my 2500k at 4.4 cant run it all that smooth and are pegged even on low settings then even at 3.2 his cpu would be choking really bad.

rereading your earlier post
that's surprising
are you sure it was running 4.4ghz at that time, wasn't throttle down or anything?

Ahh, forgot that I had FPS capped at 110.... Now I get 7758 and load time of 10025ms

Apparently the benchmark does something with 8 threads.

I also tried the 920 with cpu0 and cpu 2 running the benchmark, and it lagged terribly, much like toyota's graph shows.

I also ran it with 4 cores perfectly, but I noticed that load time went up from 17.3s to 18.3s compared to 8 threads. Not a big difference but surprised that 4 threads made a difference with the disk drive.
