Haha, this is how I felt about FFX, is the sequel even worse?
I am a huge final fantasy fan. My opinion about FFX was that the voice acting killed it. Most of the voice actors were good . . . EXCEPT THE TWO MOST IMPORTANT CHARACTERS. That one scene where they were laughing together . . . omfg I was just cringing it was so bad. Also - you can tell that these voice actors were not in the same room when they did they parts. They talk at each other, not too each other, and it just does not work for long conversations. Also, the story was a little weird.
Now, FFX-2. Where to begin . . . Ok, first, it opens with a really long jpop video featuring yuna, and goes downhill from there. The dialogue is even worse, and the whole 'love conquers all' thing gets old so far. Then, well, let me explain how the story goes. There is *VERY LITTLE* core story in FFX-2. You could probably run through the key plot points in 4 hours in new game +. So why is this game so long?
You know all that extra crap you could do in FFX, like the mini games and such?
In FFX-2 - it's not extra crap. You *HAVE* to do so many completly pointless things to advance the plot.
And in the end, that's what really gets me about it. I don't mind a non linear storyline, and I don't mind cool extras in the game, but forcing you to do it is just too much. Also - some of the puzzles are absolutly sick. To reach the final boss - you have to do a puzzle where you remember notes and then replay them by stepping on pedestals. Now - this isn't so bad, I have a good memory for music, and there are no random ecounters - so this really wouldn't be so bad . . . EXCEPT THE CONTROLS ARE HORRIBLE. I don't know how many times I had to restart this quest because dumb ass yuna jumped on the wrong platform.
Don't get me started on the dialogue. If some big ass monster is trying to kick your ass - you do not beat him 'with love' - you kick his ass. Kicking his ass and then launcing into really stupid dialogue does means YOU STILL KICKED HIS ASS - THAT'S NOT LOVE DIPSHIT.
And . . . ugh . . . the cliches. This game plays them so up it makes me want to vomit.
I think I can stop now, and I haven't even gotten to dresspheres . . .

P.S., Also - if you haven't heard - the combat system in FFXII is going to be .hack style instead of FF style. This imho is a really bad move . . . hopefully it turns out ok.
