I've been too busy actually playing the game and forgot to take any screen caps or videos. Second run-through will have it, so for now you guys will just have to settle for text.

The guys in the chat room are almost always available to help as well.
General battle tactics:
1) Check out all your enemies for their abilities and equipment. This will help prioritize your attacks and will tell you what will and what won't work.
2) In general, play defensively until you get first blood. Buff your party while you do this.
3) If you are having trouble with a fight, adjust your jobs/abilities/equip to counter what they bring to the fight. One of your biggest advantages is that the enemy loadouts are usually quite inflexible.
4) You will often find yourself in repeated kill/resurrect loops ("sandbag loops"), on either team. This happens when one team's ability to resurrect is matched by the other team's ability to kill the resurrected. Break free by either healing faster than they can kill you, or by doing even more damage to the other team so that they have to heal rather than kill. Usually the enemy AI prioritizes healing over killing. Get out of loops ASAP because you'll be gaining levels for no reason.
5) The AI will tie up their turns healing or rezzing rather than damaging you, so concentrate fire to get their units dead or in critical status.
6) When resurrecting your own units, prioritize based on who can also rez other units and who has more CT. If you rez someone using a Phoenix Down and they have 100 CT, they will get a turn immediately, and if they have Item, they can raise another char. If the enemy doesn't have AoE attacks then you've just gotten the upper hand.
General strats:
1) Don't overlevel. Enemy levels scale with yours (usually +2/-0) and their equipment is not limited to what is available in the stores. Your equipment is storyline-driven, the enemies' equipment is level-driven. That means that if you level too much, enemy equipment is better than what you can buy. Then you'd need to steal it to even out the odds, but then while stealing you will also be building levels... vicious cycle. It can be done, but think twice about it.
2) You don't always need the latest and greatest equipment. It's much better to keep up your stock of Phoenix Downs than it is to buy some armor that gives you 8 HP over what you have. Money isn't usually an issue if you're not being frivolous.
3) Females are better at magic. Make your casters female.
4) High Brave (and high Faith on your casters) makes the game a lot easier. You can either roll for new recruits at the soldier office at the beginning of the game, or you can hack your save file (FFTastic) to give yourself good numbers. This will save you time but some would call it cheating. Up to you. FYI the recruits you spawn at the beginning of the game can have up to 72/72 whereas soldier office is limited to 70/70.
5) If you're going to stack the odds by getting high Br/Fa as above, go ahead and give yourself good compatibility too. I made Ramza a Cancer (birthday-driven) and everybody else an even mix of Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces - just remember that your main healing caster should be either Scorpio or Pisces in order to get good compat with Ramza (most important character).
6) Entering Sweegy Woods from the left gives you a random battle with usually 0/1/2 Mediators and 0/1/2 bulls/flotiballs. Best spawn is just a single mediator. Spread out so sleep doesn't get multiple characters, and it's basically grind heaven. Going into these battles, you want to have Basic Skill (either as a squire or as a secondary) because Cheer Up is a high-accuracy skill that you can use on every turn to gain JP. Stop leveling as squires once everyone gets Cheer Up, Wish, Move+1 (in that order), at which point you can start using Basic Skill as a secondary for when you're grinding more advanced jobs. Counter Throw helps in the early fights but it's not really necessary. Same for Throw Item but that's a little more helpful IMO.
7) Most jobs are pretty viable but for early game I tried to get jobs available ASAP. I had a backup male/female who I grinded in randoms to keep up with my main team, and I'm sending them toward Bard/Dancer. The female as a thief is also useful for Charming males. Mid-game plan so far is Ramza - everything, male 1 - samurai/lancer, male 2 - ninja, male 3 - bard, female 1 - thief/dancer, female 2 - healing/sage, female 3 - summoner
