Placeholder for an LP of Final Fantasy Tactics 1.3.0.8.

Technically it's a console game, but no one plays this on console as emulated play on PC is much less tedious and much more functional.

This mod comes from the guys at Insane Difficulty, and is a difficulty and rebalancing mod for FFT which makes the game much more rewarding and gives it significantly more replay value.

You can get hold of the game/BIOS through the usual means (e.g. ripping your own copy...) and you can use either ePSXe or pSX, available at their respective sites or on ID's download pages.

I use pSX, config below:

Space bar - break FPS limit
WASD - directional pad
IJKL - triangle/square/X/O respectively
ERYU - L1/L2/R2/R1 respectively
NM - select/start respectively

I've been too busy actually playing the game and forgot to take any screen caps or videos. Second run-through will have it, so for now you guys will just have to settle for text.

The guys in the chat room are almost always available to help as well.

General battle tactics:

1) Check out all your enemies for their abilities and equipment. This will help prioritize your attacks and will tell you what will and what won't work.
2) In general, play defensively until you get first blood. Buff your party while you do this.
3) If you are having trouble with a fight, adjust your jobs/abilities/equip to counter what they bring to the fight. One of your biggest advantages is that the enemy loadouts are usually quite inflexible.
4) You will often find yourself in repeated kill/resurrect loops ("sandbag loops"), on either team. This happens when one team's ability to resurrect is matched by the other team's ability to kill the resurrected. Break free by either healing faster than they can kill you, or by doing even more damage to the other team so that they have to heal rather than kill. Usually the enemy AI prioritizes healing over killing. Get out of loops ASAP because you'll be gaining levels for no reason.
5) The AI will tie up their turns healing or rezzing rather than damaging you, so concentrate fire to get their units dead or in critical status.
6) When resurrecting your own units, prioritize based on who can also rez other units and who has more CT. If you rez someone using a Phoenix Down and they have 100 CT, they will get a turn immediately, and if they have Item, they can raise another char. If the enemy doesn't have AoE attacks then you've just gotten the upper hand.

General strats:

1) Don't overlevel. Enemy levels scale with yours (usually +2/-0) and their equipment is not limited to what is available in the stores. Your equipment is storyline-driven, the enemies' equipment is level-driven. That means that if you level too much, enemy equipment is better than what you can buy. Then you'd need to steal it to even out the odds, but then while stealing you will also be building levels... vicious cycle. It can be done, but think twice about it.
2) You don't always need the latest and greatest equipment. It's much better to keep up your stock of Phoenix Downs than it is to buy some armor that gives you 8 HP over what you have. Money isn't usually an issue if you're not being frivolous.
3) Females are better at magic. Make your casters female.
4) High Brave (and high Faith on your casters) makes the game a lot easier. You can either roll for new recruits at the soldier office at the beginning of the game, or you can hack your save file (FFTastic) to give yourself good numbers. This will save you time but some would call it cheating. Up to you. FYI the recruits you spawn at the beginning of the game can have up to 72/72 whereas soldier office is limited to 70/70.
5) If you're going to stack the odds by getting high Br/Fa as above, go ahead and give yourself good compatibility too. I made Ramza a Cancer (birthday-driven) and everybody else an even mix of Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces - just remember that your main healing caster should be either Scorpio or Pisces in order to get good compat with Ramza (most important character).
6) Entering Sweegy Woods from the left gives you a random battle with usually 0/1/2 Mediators and 0/1/2 bulls/flotiballs. Best spawn is just a single mediator. Spread out so sleep doesn't get multiple characters, and it's basically grind heaven. Going into these battles, you want to have Basic Skill (either as a squire or as a secondary) because Cheer Up is a high-accuracy skill that you can use on every turn to gain JP. Stop leveling as squires once everyone gets Cheer Up, Wish, Move+1 (in that order), at which point you can start using Basic Skill as a secondary for when you're grinding more advanced jobs. Counter Throw helps in the early fights but it's not really necessary. Same for Throw Item but that's a little more helpful IMO.
7) Most jobs are pretty viable but for early game I tried to get jobs available ASAP. I had a backup male/female who I grinded in randoms to keep up with my main team, and I'm sending them toward Bard/Dancer. The female as a thief is also useful for Charming males. Mid-game plan so far is Ramza - everything, male 1 - samurai/lancer, male 2 - ninja, male 3 - bard, female 1 - thief/dancer, female 2 - healing/sage, female 3 - summoner

Battle log:

Chapter 1:

Gariland Magic City - pretty easy. just remember to get first blood and don't let them flank you.

Mandalia Plains - if you choose "Destroying the Death Corps is our priority" then you get a permanent +2 brave to your whole party. this battle is a lot easier if Algus spawns with a crossbow because it means he's a lot less likely to die, and him being alive is a big help. try to concentrate fire on anyone who has Item since they will be healing/rezzing more effectively. I had to do this stage a few times because Algus kept dying on me. You don't lose when he does, but it's a lot tougher.

Sweegy Woods - take out the goblin(s) first who can rez, and then concentrate fire on the other goblins. Leave the bombs for last since you'll need to deal with their explode attack. Make sure you stay 9 panels away from a bomb whenever possible since that's outside their flame attack at max range.

Dorter - this was the first tough one for me but I wasn't really prepared. I made it easier for myself by getting a wizard with Explosion, a white mage with Spirit Surge, and two Marksmen, one with Stunning Strike (to cancel their spells) and one with Magic Ruin (to kill their MP). I think I did this stage with party level around 5 or so.

Sand Rat - I used Charm and Don't Act (Paralyze) a lot. Remember to keep 15 PDs in stock, you might need them. I ended up getting some pretty good abilities from the crystals here.

Thieves Fort - not too bad. There is a white mage who wears armor, I like to Charm her first. Cursed Strike adds oil to enemies which usually lets you OHKO with Explosion. Was also able to get a bunch of crystals here. I think it was around this point that Cure became significantly more effective than Potion.

Lenalia Plateau - I didn't bother killing everyone. I used Cursed Strike/Explosion to concentrate fire on Miluda. The less XP you gain, the better off you are since you'll do a better job keeping up with the enemy's equips.

Windmill - Spirit Surge, Explosion, Charm, Paralyze, Haste, Protect are all useful. If you Charm someone, charm the archer(s) first since the monks will just Stigma Magic themselves. If you kill someone, Wiegraf will rez them. You can also Spell Absorb/Magic Ruin his MP away so that he can't get any sword skills off.

Zeakden - this one is tough. If you don't finish this by Algus's third turn, you lose Brave permanently (can't remember how much) so there's a lot of incentive to make it happen. I had Ramza as a Marksman with Battle Skill, and I broke his helmet and armor to reduce his HP to around 100 or so. I brought along two wizards with Flame Rod for Explosion, and Arrow Guard* so Algus doesn't kill them. Haste your two wizards at the same time so they can throw out the spells ASAP. This strat needs a lot of luck. You can grind a little bit for more powerful spells to make it a little easier on yourself but I was able to complete this battle around level 10. * the Arrow Guard will help with the next fight, which is unavoidable and ungrindable.

Chapter 2:

Dorter 2 - this one was a pain. it's especially important to knock out their units as quickly as possible since that'll tie up their units trying to rez and heal. Arrow Guard helps since there will be an archer at the top who is a huge pain in the ass. Haste your slowed units to get them back to normal. Magic Ruin and Charm can help. What made this suck was that Gaf/Agrias join up at 1-2 levels above you and that makes the enemies have better equips.

Araguay - Not too bad. Ifrit /w Flame Rod, Spirit Surge, and Geomancy take care of the goblins pretty quickly. Sometimes Boco is an idiot and attacks enemies with Counter (throw) but this should be pretty easy. I grinded everyone prior to this battle to match Gaf/Agrias' levels to make it a bit easier.

Zirekile Falls - de-equip Gaf before this battle as he turns traitor. you'll need some luck for this battle. I turned it around with a combination of Chakra for MP healing (your casters and Delita), successful Charm/Paralyze, and Delita ACTUALLY processing some Deads on his Crush Punch attacks. I wasn't getting too much luck with geomancy status effects but it's a decent attack, especially if you have Diamond Armlet (Geomancy is affected by both PA and MA). Throwing Ethers at Ovelia also helps since she knows Holy - it one-shots the lancers. Teach Agrias Spirit Surge if you haven't got it already. I made Ramza a Monk with Equip Armor IIRC. I finished this battle with my highest-leveled character at around 13.

Zaland - surprisingly easy. Of course, save Mustadio. If you give Agrias Move+1, Spike Shoes, and a good sword, she can do quite bit of damage right from the get-go. I followed up with a few juicy summons and all they could do was rez loop. Even had time to pick up some crystals (nearly mastered Black Magic with one of them). Finished the battle at level 14.

I didn't know there were mods for this game, it's one of my all-time favorites. I think I may have to play it one more time, heh.

Your link the the OP is broken btw.
