ffs cant ea do anything right???

I bought BF2 a while ago, havent been playing that much, and not since they released patch 1.01. So tonight i think, hey i want to play bf2, and hey its up to 1.02.

I download the patch, wait a bit, run the patch. Hurray i think, untill I see installing 1.01. Quickly though i realise that it must be installing patch 1.01 first and then 1.02, ah everything must be good... that is untill I get installation failed.

Bummer. I scavange the internet for info. Here I find that they screwed the install numbers, so when it says 1.01 it should say 1.02. No biggy. I read a bit more.

Place the patch in your desktop and run it from there. If that still don't work, then you are having registry problems. This is how you fix it:

1.Go To Start > Run > Type "regedit" (without quotes)

2. Go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Electronic Arts\EA Games\Battlefield 2

3. Then right click on the right hand window and go on NEW string value,then enter InstallDir for the string name and for the value enter D:\GAMES\Battlefield 2

Righto, i move the file to the desktop, Installation error.
I go to regedit find the registry settings and what do you know, the string is already there and is correct.

to fix this prob you need to do the following

Execute Patcher, Choose language, wait for welcome screen, don't hit continue.

go to your documents folder and to this location:

c:\documents\YOUR USERNAME\local settings\temp

and look for a folder which looks like {BLAH....} lots of numbers and chars. Go into that folder structure and copy the files in it (e.g. patch.exe, all the files) to a folder where you can execute them (e.g. create a dir named C:\temp)

then open a commandpromt (type "cmd" in run/execute at startmenu) and go to your new created folder with the patchdata. Execute the with the following line (edit to your installfolder location of course):

patch.exe "c:\FolderWhereBF 2Is"

and for crying outloud, a whole lot of people are having problems and they expect people to go through all that just to patch the game?

Its not bad enough that EA releases a buggy game but the patches have to be buggy as well.:|
