VIII was interesting but I never did finish it...I still have the very memorable sound track in my head though...I remember losing an entire summer to IX however

the music and the videos were excellent. Shame they put so little effort into the actual game.

I loved the card game in VIII. I also like that one of the better ways to making your characters strong involves eliminating random encounters.

I am one of the rare people that really liked FF8. I even ran a D&D 3.5 campaign based off the idea that the Rinoa becomes the Queen and Squall is her champion.

Now THATS fucking cool.

Did you use some 3rd party expansion for the universe or make it up yourself?

I love FF8, probably my favorite one and certainly my most nostalgic. I would get the PC version but supposedly it still uses goddamn MIDI. Annoys the hell out of me that even in this time and age it's not the digital music from the PS1 version. My girlfriend is interesting in possibly playing it but I'd much rather pay an arm and a leg for the PS1 version and just play it on an emulator.

well, you can have my copy of this shitty game that is buried away in the closet.

But I'm nice...I'll only charge you one limb, and I'll even let you choose.

I don't think they'll be releasing a FF9 version since it doesn't have a PC version to begin with

Why pay an arm and a leg? If you already have a PSP, Vita or PS3, you can just pay $10 for this:

I haven't enjoyed Final Fantasy since the 8-bit days...

I loved FF8, but then again i played it when i was 14.
I distinctly remember getting the trailer for FF8 on a CD from PCGamer magazine and being COMPLETELY BLOWN AWAY by the quality of the CGI movies! the intro with the feathers and the Ball scene, are you kidding me??
Yes, the summon cutscenes were freaking awful because you had to use them so much, but still i have fond memories of the game.

Other FFs: of course FF7 was the most epic game i ever played, i played FF9 on a PSX emulator and didn't like it very much, i played FFX 10 years after it came out and i guess i was too old to like it by then, and recently played FF12 which was too much like an MMO and quit not far from the end when i realized the game isn't going anywhere and the combat sucks big time.

Yeah the movies and 3D characters were considerably improved from Final Fantasy 7. Set a whole new standard for video games from that point on.

This was the second Final Fantasy game I bought for the computer. It was just awful. The only redeeming quality was that the card mini game was fun. After I couldn't get through FFX-2 I stopped getting FF games entirely. But this game was the worst of the games in that series that I played. (I have played FF1 through 10-2).

Did you think X-2 was excessively long with all those little chapters, or did you just not like the gameplay?

It just wasn't fun. The story made no sense (just like all other Final Fantasies), and the combat and setting just didn't draw me in. I just couldn't force myself to finish the game, and I don't think I was too far along in it. I am actually playing FFV right now on my phone, and just finished 2, 3, and 4 on my phone as well. I am finding that the gameplay on these older games is just a heck of a lot funner than the newer games to me.

I forget where I read this, but one of the guys that worked on Final Fantasy VII said that they reason why the characters were deformed was to give them more of a cartoonish look. Although, they found that people wanted a more realistic look, which is why they changed it for Final Fantasy VIII, which I believe also had 3D-rendered backgrounds versus hand-drawn backgrounds.

I hated FF8. Way too many cutscenes, even compared to FF7. Way too many stupid time wasters that have didly to do with the quest.
That card minigame irritated me. I hated playing it, unfortunately you needed to win those good cards so you could morph them into decent items. I also hated there was no armor and accessories, and the fact you had to morph items to get new weapons.

I REALLY hated enemies leveling up with me. I hated drawing magic, both from enemies and from invisible spots on the ground. I hated using spells because it meant your junctioned attributes would get weaker. I hated the whole junctioning system.

I hated that if you accidentally passed up an opportunity to draw something unique from a boss that you'd never ever get the chance again.

God damn that game sucked.

I will say this, it did play better in Windows than FF7 did. 3D always worked fine, there were far fewer crashes and glitches. Shame the game itself was so horrible.

Tell us how you really feel! :p

FFVII is a classic but I don't think it aged well over time. Still, who could hate on over-the-top Summons like this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zhmO9NOFHfo
