I was in a hurry to leave last night and shut the computer down with the power button instead of through xp. This morning I open firefox and all my bookmarks are gone and it's installed google toolbar. The weird thing is that it still has some passwords saved. How did this happen? I don't think it was open when I shut down.

Is there any way to recover the bookmarks?

Thanks.

Bookmarks are stored in folders under "%USERPROFILE%\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles". Inside each folder, there is a bookmarks.html, which is your current bookmarks. There may also be a bookmarks.bak, which should hold your last bookmarks. If both files are the same...did you do a backup of "c:\Documents and Settings"?

Another question while I'm at it - why are you still on Firefox 2?

I didn't like FF3.

I've found several bookmark.html files and backups with dates. (bookmarks2009-03-18.html etc.) Where should I move these to so that FF will pull them up?

ETA: I figured out how to import the bookmarks from the backups. Thanks for your help!

FYI - FF2 is no longer updated with security updates, so you should definitely move to version 3.
