A while ago a bought a second dell u2711, for productivity purposes. Very happy with it (would defiantly recommend it). Apart from two issues one being related the crossfire, the other being the colours.

Currently im using 2 asus 6950 (dual bios, unlocked etc). Both monitors are connected thorugh the display ports on one card, and running at 2560x1440.

Sometimes when i enable crossfire, in ccc. I get an error in windows saying theres an error with the displayport and the resolution.
When this happens my second monitor either gets set to 1920x1080 or just gets kocked out and i cant turn it off, change the input, colours etc (it just stops responding).

Usually i just turn it off an the mains and restart my pc. This solves it and it doesnt take to long but, its still a problem. Also sometimes when my pc starts crossfire is enabled others it isnt.
Even though it was enabled when i shut my pc down. Whats actually supposed to happen should it be enabled or disabled when i turn my pc on?

I really have no idea whats causing this, the card, drivers or the monitor itself? (im really not that knowledgeable on this kinda thing)

The only reason im using crossfire is for games. As i dont feel one 6950 is up to it at my resolution, it was the best choice for my budget but im not overly happy about it, it just doesnt seem reliable.
I have thought about ditching it and going with a single more powerful card (better then a single 6950, gtx 670 maybe). But money is a bit tight, gotta save for my car tax, mot, insurance etc. So i would really need to cover the cost of one card with the sale of my current ones.

Anyway my other issue is with the colours or the temprature, from what i can see both monitors have the same settings, but the picture on one looks older. the other has a brigter fresher picture.
Im sure there both different versions. which is probably why they look different so does any one have any advice on how to "fix" this. So both look the same, or as close as possible.

EDIT:

My pc specs are
Crossfire ASUS HD 6950(Unlocked) 2gb
i5 2500k @ 4.5ghz
8gb ram DDR3
p8p67 pro rev 3.1
240 gb ocz agility 3
1tb hdd
900w antec power supply (think its high current gamer series)

(I would add them to my signature but cant find where, to create it)

What driver versions are you using, maybe try a beta/newer version of the drivers?

Also, are you able to try out using other video cables, such as DVI or HDMI or even VGA?

Maybe there is a bug in the driver software that doesn't handle dual-displayport output for crossfire? I don't think your video behavior is normal? Maybe if you swap to other cables/ports, it might not have the bug, if it's a bug?

What are the specs of the rest of your system?

If your motherboard is H67, Z68, or Z77 then you could try enabling the onboard video and using that to power your 2nd monitor instead of having both powered by your 6950s.

Ive updated my op with my pc specs also im currently running
the 12.4 drivers

im guessing i should download the 12.6 beta drivers

Also my monitor doesnt support the max res when using hdmi, monitor docs are here.

Also my card has 1 x (DVI-I), 1 x (DVI-D).

Im gonna switch some of the cables about then, ill see what happens.

Well i decided to use the dual link cable which came with the monitor, and my resolution is now at 1920x1080 cant seem to go higher. and now i have no sound as i was using the display port 4 tht.
