are you sure the foam will not allow any stress on the mobo?the hsf itself weighs more than 1kg i assume(very heavy on my hands when i installed it)

It's safe but fill it with ammonium nitrate fertilizer before you ship it to pad the internals. Also put in a small bottle of diesel fuel to absorb moisture.

What are you trying to do with solidworks? Any decent laptop made in the last 2-3 with non-integrated graphics will be able to handle a moderately complicated part.
Matlab, any dual core system would be fine.
I say this because I use NX and MATLAB on a Core Duo T2500 with 4GB ram and an ATI X1300 with 128mb dedicated.

lol yes. foam🙂
if you are thinking about shipping it in the antec case box u are nuts. boxes for cases are meant to protect empty metal shells, which are only vulnerable to dents, and care little about shocks. so the padding necessary for shipping a case esp with a pc not specifically designed to survive shipping=big big box.

ship it directly to a TSA employee's home and save yourself the trouble.
