Hey there. I've used small TN panels for most of my life and I think I've finally bought into the idea of an IPS panel and justifying the cost. I use my desktop for a little bit of everything, gaming, surfing the web, light video editing/encoding, some programming.

I know about the Dell U2412m which would fit my needs perfectly I think but I was wondering what if any other alternatives are out there.

I'm looking for ~24" or so, decent sized 16:10 resolution, 300-500 or so is my budget.

I know the U2412m fits perfectly but I haven't heard of many other manufacturers IPS panels so I don't know what they offer. Are there any other options out there?

I have a u2412m and I really enjoy it. When I bought it a few months ago I was also considering the ASUS PA246Q and the Samsung PLS (competing technology to IPS) S24A850DW. They're probably both a little bit better than the Dell, but they were also $200 more expensive. There's also the HP ZR2440w, which should be very similar to the Dell.

Considering the u2412m can be had for $299 or less on sale and compares quite well with most models up to $500, I see no reason to spend the extra money.

The main difference between the U2412m and the pa246q is that the asus is a wide gamut display. If you don't need/want that feature then the dell seems a good option.

This seems like a great resource thanks for the link.

The 2412 is on sale today for $299 too. Check slickdeals.net.

I have the 2410. While I really like it, if you're not gaming the thick anti glare coating can get annoying, but man does the picture look nice.
