Trump explicitly asked the vice president to not count lawfully cast electoral votes for the purpose of overthrowing the will of the voters as expressed in the 2020 election. There is no question whatsoever that he did this and had he succeeded that would be the end of democracy in the US. To say Trump doesn't want to end democracy is to ignore his very clearly stated requests for people to end democracy.

He personally and enthusiastically recruited a mob to attack congress trying to stay in power.

Not relevant to what I quoted. You say you don't think Trump wanted to end democracy but he literally explicitly asked his VP to end democracy and most of the Republican Party had no problem with that. I think a prerequisite for any party in the US should that it supports democracy.

People never want to think of their preferred party attempting a coup but that's what happened. We're just lucky we were able to beat the Republicans back from seizing power that time.
