fertilizer/cleaning solutions

Soap was (still is) made from lye (sodium hydroxide); frontier people made soap from ashes and animal fat. Today, most cleaning solutions are detergents which are not soaps.

I suspect fertilizers are generally close to neutral, but some plants prefer particular pH values and thus have specific fertilizer formulations. Azaleas for instance grow best in acidic soil and there are specific formulations for them.

Cleaning solutions is a broad term - Bleach is extremely basic (12-14?). detergents can be either but I think are usually basic (like ~10).
