It knows how to use a screwdriver?

Some cases like my Antec do not use screws, instead it has a latch on the side panel that you pull on like a car door.

Denatured Alcohol works much better than rubbing alcohol and by the ounce it is much cheaper.

Plus they like to hide their poop in strange places. However, it sounds like your ferret is mad at you. Maybe you are spending too much time with your computer and it is getting jealous? Anyway, the smell is pretty easy to clean up; any household cleaner should do the trick.

Yup, it sounds like your little weasel friend is mad at you and/or your computer! Animals pooping in odd places is a sure sign that he or she is mad at you or jealous for some reason.

I would put a lock of the case like someone above mentioned - but then he will just find a new fun place to leave you butt chocolate surprises

I have tears in my eyes and my freaking chest hurts! While this sucks, this is FUNNY.

Got a Petsmart? In the cat section is a spray bottle for cat urine. I has a mainly light yellow label with red and blue on it. That stuff will neutralize it. Don't think it is safe for electronics though, so you are have to do some manual swabbing. You can get a boatload of cotton balls/swabs in the makeup aisle in WalMart for cheap. While at WalMart, go to the hardware section and find some tie wraps/locktights to help keep that case closed. If all else fails, the handyman's secret weapon is in order, duct tape.

Ok, to all you people who are talking about the ways the ferret could have gotten into the case I want you to read the above line post again... the op was being sarcastic! Please check those meters people! ;)

I am assuming he thought it was funny that someone actually asked if he left the side off when it was obvious he did.

First you need to trash the fans (i.e. replace them). Second you need to remove the motherboard and all other components. Thrid take the empty case and a large bottle of dish soap to your back yard and thoroughly wash it out. Fourth disinfect the case with one can of Lysol (not the Clorox version that leaves a sticky residue), and last you need a set of these.

Why trash the fans? He pooped in the case and they wafted some of the smell, are the suddenly bad now? I agree with the cleaning instructions, as well as what someone else said about using alchohol to clean the mobo.

And read above, the ferret did not break into the case so a lock is not neccesary. Actually, back to your first point he may need new fans as he had the side of his case open for some reason so it might be a cooling issue.

Spike, you are right. But, obviously, you never have owned a ferret... ;)

Cats like computer cases too. They smell so, so, so... unspoiled!

LOL, Ferrets can do almost anything if they set their mind to it. We had to put a lock on the door to our ferrets cage, because he figured out how to open the door.

This topic is hilarious. It sure did brighten up my day.

I'm going to get a cat soon, and am going to have to make sure it doesn't fiddle with my computer!

Some of those sprays can destroy synthetic materials, it could spell trouble for your motherboard.

This thread reminds me of how I woke up this morning: With my cat's bum in my face droping a load of golden yellow liquid in my face. Needles to say that I was very pissed and took an immeadiate shower.

I'm having a hard time with this original post.

My wife and I just happen to own EIGHT Ferrets, so I'd like to think I know a little bit about Ferrets.

I do know two things about Ferrets, they are very smart, and they like to poop... but still, this post doesn't make any sense to me.

I also own and build multiple computers... knowing what a typical case is like, how it sits, and where components are and the size of a ferret.... I wonder...

1) Ferrets are natural corner-poopers. They always poop in corners.

2) Ferrets are also quite lazy when it comes to pooping... the nearest corner, or the "easiest" corner to get to is where they will poop.

3) Why would a ferret (as clever and lazy as they are), open a case to poop in when they are far more likely to just poop near the case (if it's on the floor).

4) Cables, wires, PCI cards, etc Even a "backing ferret" (all ferret owners knows what that means), how did an animal that big get it between the MB and the case? We're not talking Hamster droppings here... Ferrets leave land-mines.

5) Ferret Poo solidifies quickly and is actually very easy to get rid off, especially on hard surfaces like a computer case (even MB).

6) All Ferret Owners need to "Ferret-proof" their house... having Ferrets is like having a 2-year old in the house... they are that clever, that mischevous and that capable of getting into trouble. I have three desktops in the house... non of my eight ferrets are capable of getting into the cases (and I have some pretty smart ferrets)... lax security in the house? That case should have been "ferret-proofed".

7) I'm still puzzled how (or why) you got Ferret poop where you did between the MB and case and why it's so hard to remove. Ferret Poo is actually one of the easiest things to get rid of. It's a mystery.

8) Anyways, to answer your question... NAIL POLISH REMOVER... it's a computer-tech's friend... it'll get rid of almost anything and everything on or around computers, and it won't kill any of your components (it also dries quickly).

Good luck... and next time ferret-proof the house!

Ok, so this post was crazy funny.

But the solutions of rubbing alcohol and nailpolish remover to clean a MOBO really surprised me, the wouldn't hurt any of the little fragile components?

No... actually both are some of the best things to use with MB components, including removing thermal paste from a CPU.

Alcohol is a good cleaner, but it's not very strong... for TOUGH jobs use nailpolish remover, and then go behind it with alcohol just to be sure.

I can't even count how many CPUs I've cleaned using those two agents.... all came out just fine and had healthy long lives. Oh, and always use lint-free rags (like the kind you use to clean glasses or CDs)... never use paper towels or regular rags/towels... they leave behind bad things.

As for the OP suggestion of OVEN CLEANER... now that's crazy (forgot to mention)... oven cleaner is CORROSIVE, and a very bad idea to use on a sensitive MB.

On Nail Polish Remover (with Acetone)... Keep it away from finished plastic including your fancy see-through panels. It will discolor polystyrene. Acetone can be used as a glue to bond two pieces of polystyrene together. Acetate is toast with it. It will eat through acetate like acid (so don't spill it on a poly bed comforter or some poly pants).

Wolfshanze - a co-worker has a different cut on the 'lazy' pooper behavior. He says they are more like 2 year olds in that when they have to go, it becomes NOW. Due to their really short GI track.

/I only had one ferret, an albino - Major Burns

Out of our eight ferrets, most of them are pretty good about using a litterbox (we only have one we called the "mad bomber"). As long as you have at least one or two small literboxes per room a ferret plays in, you should be good to go and avoid such instances as this (as long as you tought them to use a litterbox).

Eight ferrets is quite the handful, but they behave about as well as can be expected for mischevious pooping cleptomaniacs.
