You don't get to just drive away as a cop is writing you a ticket. Driving away, at all, "escalated" the whole ordeal.

well you don't get to drive away when a cop is trying to give you a ticket. that is a good way to get arrested.

Both are idiots. the rich guy should have just laughed about the ticket and made some lame comments about how now he won't be able to afford another ferrari..oh wait yes i am! then ask the cop how about him?

instead he chose to try to leave..idiotic move.

He is saying that the cop didn't have to stick his foot under the car at all, since just trying to drive away is enough to get charged.

Even if he hadn't run over the cop's foot, he'd likely have been charged with obstruction, evasion, resisting, etc

They why stick your foot under the car?

If the man wasn't doing anything illegal then the cop shouldn't have impeded his movement.

Oh who knows? Stupid mistake? Maybe the cop thought he was enough in front of the car that any moron wouldn't dare try to drive off? Maybe he has terrible spatial awareness and coordination? Maybe he is looking to get a few weeks off covered by worker's comp.

None of it takes away from the kid being a fucking retard.

Can't argue with that.

Thank you, someone gets it.

People are douchebags and idiots, that's expected, that's why we have cops.

Can someone tell me why we have cops who are douchebags and idiots as well?

We need to pay them more, and screen better, so that a higher standard of human beings are in charge of this kind of power.

The news story here is:

1. Spoiled rich kid acts like spoiled rich kid > gets arrested over a parking ticket.

2. Cop completely unnecessarily puts himself in harms way > gets harmed over a parking ticket.

Which of the two do you have an issue with, really?

Just watched the video. The 1% piece of sh** had his ass handed to him. Good for the police. Hopefully the spoiled brat serves plenty of jail time. Unfortunately for society, neither will happen because he's a spoiled rich kid. Did anyone get his name?

what kind of sneakers did the kid have on? he is lucky he did not get his ass kicked. I have seen cops dish out beat downs for far less.
btw you have to have a front plate in NY State.

doesn't give you the right to run someone over

if he wasn't doing anything illegal he could have absolved any issues in court

Rich people totally ignore other people. Its a thing they do. Its not that they think you are worthless, its just 90% of your pissant problems have to do with money or could be solved by money, so they don't care.

When he was driving off he was probably like "The $10k bail to get away with just driving away is worth it not to have to talk to this douchebag officer."

The "driving right into the cop" was a classic rich-guy douche move. He assumed 100% the cop would have just let him go, scramble to his car, etc.

It seems he never deserved a ticket. So its definitely a "I will sue for the wrongful ticket, you had no right to keep me there (the ticket was invalid) and then you broke my Ferrari. I need an Extra $1million for emotional damages."

He was probably lol'ing when he was on the ground about how much he was going to try and screw the cop in court. It probably never touched his foot.

I don't blame the cop at all. Yeah it looks like the cop set up the opportunity for the guy to "assault" the cop, but the guy took it. He clearly thought he was above the law and I'm not some rich guy hater.

For you guys defending the driver, you're ridiculous.

I saw this video a couple of days ago.
My favorite part is when they move the cones around the kid laying on the ground so he doesn't get run over :)

Hell, in this case I give the cop  for restraint. As soon as that tire rolled over my foot my sidearm would've been in the rich bitch's face.

How the fuck can anyone in this thread side with the douchebag Ferrari driver?

There are plenty of threads here where the cops are arguably and/or unquestionably in the wrong, but it does not take a fucking rocket scientist to know that when a cop is writing you a ticket, you don't have the right to get in your car and take off. And when a cop specifically tells you to stop (regardless of whether the cop has put himself in front of your car or not), you stop.

This kid is a spoiled rich little shit and I take some solace in the fact that, even for just a moment, he was forced to live in the real world - where there are consequences for your actions. Not that this will have any lasting impression whatsoever on him.

Actually, if the cop is writing you a ticket but you ARE NOT under arrest at the time, why can't you just drive away? If you aren't under arrest you should be free to go.

The cop was definitely in the wrong here. He should have said something to the guy as he got in. Instead, the cop just puts his foot under the tire. I don't see why the guy was getting a ticket in the first place. The valet had just brought his car there and it was in the correct place.

Cop could have been writing anything. He could have been writing a ticket for someone else nearby. If he was writing a ticket for that driver, he should have said something instead of putting his foot under the tire.

I like how everyone assumes he's a spoiled rich kid just because he dates a reality TV star. From what I can gather, he's a successful iPhone/iPad app developer. Doesn't take away from him acting stupid in this situation of course.

I've seen it many times in NYC... not from cops specifically but from meter maids. They don't speak unless spoken to. Probably because they've heard it all and just sick of talking to people about their tickets. I don't know what this cop is doing but the meter maids usually will just stand in front of the vehicle to block it from going anywhere.

Police say that before the amateur began filming, Chabbott grabbed the ticket book from the cop and ignored orders to stay on the sidewalk.

Chabbott was illegally parked and the Spider had no registration or inspection stickers displayed. The car also lacked a front license plate. He was charged with assault, vehicular assault, obstructing governmental administration and disorderly conduct.
