For some reason, these guys put an F40 on a dyno and rev it all the way WAY WAY WAY past it's redline (probably 250 mph with no wind resistance) and let it rev down real slow... it's an awesome vid if you love the F40 as much as I and Clarkson do.

holy crap does it rev forever.

I doubt they blew past the redline.

its backfiring, it was getting so much fuel so fast thatwhen they let off the pedal, and the engine RPM's dropped, the car got to much gas, and the gas exploded on the exhaust stroke somehow.

Actually, it's called afterfire. When they let off the throttle (after WOT and redline), the air intake valve closed almost shut, causing maximum vaccum pressure in the intake manifold, and (for a brief second before the injectors shut down) a massively rich AF ratio. Unburnt gas traveled through the combustion chambers and ignited inside the exhaust. Pop-pop-pop. It is normal in any car, you just can't hear it through cats and quiet mufflers.

Backfire is actually when fuel ignites inside the intake. Very very bad.

The whine is the dyno rollers spinning WAY too fast...

dude its a dyno run.. commonly used to tune high performance cars and bikes..
this way you get a accurate computer view of the Fuel/Air Curve so you can make adjustments to the mapping to get the most outa your car..
they did NOT rev this car past redline.. they took it to 5-6 gear to get a top end run to check Horsepower/Torque outputs..

this is 100% not damaging to the car/bike.

LOL. I need to steal that term sometime.

The flame was caused by unburnt fuel. When it hits the hot exhaust tips, it ignites. It's normal on this car.

I kinda doubt the reved it much past redline.
