Fenixgoon went autocrossing!!

I did about 5 track events on them, and maybe 15 autocrosses (which involves traveling 80 to 150miles roundtrip). I didn't take any measurements but here's how they looked before I sold them:

wow, nice. I was thinking they would be pretty much done after that many events. what car was this on?

after that many heat cycles, how much grip did they lose?

A G35 coupe. I'm not the quickest out there so that probably helped save some tire life.. lol

Edit: As for grip, I can't really say. I never noticed a significant drop, if any.

RS3 is probably the best bang-for-the-buck street tire right now. I wish they had stiffer sidewalls though.

Haven't autocrossed yet but looking to get into it when I have time. Done a few tracks days, though, and it's so much fun! I have to take dramamine, though. I make myself car sick.

RS3's or Star Specs - seems RS3's have a slight edge in dry grip, but Star Specs are killer on wet pavement.

I got my RS3s in time for an auto-x school. I was running pressures a little on the high side while they were breaking in and was still cranking some serious lateral force. Definitely a good auto-x tire, and will definitely make you car-sick.

I got stomped this weekend in the rain by another miata on narrow star specs. Probably has more to do with my driving skill though than the RS3s .

that seemed to be the general consensus which is why I went with the starspecs, since I was using them as a daily tire during the summer as well as for autox. at every autox i've been to its basically been a mix of those 2 tires and the crazy miata guys with slicks.

Possibly, but Star Specs will hold a 2nd gear full boost pull in my car in the rain...which IMHO is ridiculous.

Another popular, although less popular, tire is the Kumho XS. Same ballpark as the Star Specs and RS3, but not quite as good. Still hangs with the more popular tires, but it's just slightly edged out. But it's worth noting that it's dirt cheap!

TireRack says the XS broke the 1.0G corner barrier for the first time. Clearly it's good in terms of ultimate grip and would probably make a great auto-x tire. And you're definitely right, holy mother of inexpensive batman!

does anyone know how to compare "extreme performance" vs "max performance" tires?

tire rack has the spider charts, which are quite nice, but they are all normalized.

tires in question: bridgestone potenza RE-11 and michelin pilot super sport. granted i probably won't have to replace my RE050A's for a little bit, but i'd like to know ahead of time what my options are.

another inexpensive tire is the federal 595 rsr's. I spoke to a dealer at the track, he says they are a hair less grip than the rs3's, but they can be had dirt cheap

I can vouch for the RE-11. At one of the track events, a level 3 driver with a heavily modded STI said the RE-11s were his favorite tire so far (and he had been through numerous sets).

edit. Don't worry too much about the extreme vs max, you just have to look at what each tire is offering for the money. Definitely consider the Hankook RS-3s. I have Star Specs on my S2K but other S2K owners have loved their RS3s and honestly I would have gotten them but at the time I bought my set I couldn't get the RS3 in the right size.

They might wear kind of fast but I don't know how much mileage you are putting on your car. They are a good bit cheaper than other options though.
