FEMA direct deposited $2,000 to me this a.m.

I was affected by the storm. I evacuated my family and rode the storm out at work. Power to my home was restored yesterday. I have many expenses that will not be covered by insurance and won't see an adjuster for another 30 days or so.

BUT, when I checked my online banking statement this a.m., FEMA had made good on their commitment to help disaster victims. $2,000.00 deposit was made to my account. I had filed my claim electronically last week.

I'm very, very pleased with FEMA's response. It won't cover all my expenses but it's a nice start!!

Yeah right, like all the flat screens haven't been looted.

Hope the $2,000 is enough at least to keep you alive and well 🙂 I'm guessing more financial support will come soon.

I'm sure scammers are going to jump in on this. "We are part of FEMA and to get your $2,000 relief fund just send us your name, address and bank account number."

Agreed. Congrats on making it through.

Electronics would be the last thing on my mind.

Something I've beent thinking about. When something like this happens, do insurance companies not pay? They have to....don't they? Sorry never owned a home, only car insurance. Do they pay up to a certain amount?

I got that part, but what was damaged that he needed insurance to cover in the first place? Damaged roof?

Yes, family stayed the first night at the office then I sent them abroad. Law enforcement was unable to respond to many emergencys and looters were common. I didn't want them to be in the area when I couldn't protect them.

Damage at my house was mostly to the roof and facia board (sofet) and then there was some stuff outside damanged too.....some stuff not coverend by insurance (kids trampoline, swingset, etc).

Some water damage in the garage that won't be covered by insurance and then there's the cost of the geneerator and 15 days of fuel for it.

Then there's the cost of food and shelter for the family when they were abroad.

Insurance companies will pay but there's usually a deductible, which is about 2% of the value of your home. So, most of my roofing damage is likely to be uncovered and will probably cost about $3,000. Household items and cost of having the family abroad will likely be another $1,000 at least. Insurance won't pay for that.

Don't listen to the people who complain about how you spend their $.00001 contribution to that money.

Yes, some insurance companies are very unreasonable. Just before the storm the wife and kids went through the house taking pictures of everything we owned. In the absence of receipts, pictures can assist in documenting ownership and replacement.
