The Fellowes P400C-2 shredder is on sale at OD (online only) for $40. Search item 745741. Add $10 other stuff to get free shipping and use 15 off 50 coupon. This shredder is better than some of the cheapy ones available, although it is for occasional use. The $40 price is good by itself, after a quick look, I was finding $50-60 to be the usual range.

FWIW: reliable auto start/stop that provides quick and easy shredding. This shredder will shred up to five sheets of 8 1/2" x 11" paper at a time into thousands of un-reconstructable 5/32" x 2" particles including staples. The compact nature of confetti cut allows five times more material to collect in the basket than with a strip cut shredder. With a shred speed of 12 feet per minute, your confidential documents will be destroyed quickly. The 9 1/2-inch throat allows the insertion of any standard letter- or legal-size document. Reverse function allows easy removal of paper jams. Safety designed for use in your home or office.

I bought the earlier model P400C in August at a computer show for $15. Has its own trash can. I wouldn't shred more than a couple of sheets at a time though, not like Enron. ;)

I really like it, great for all those pre-approved credit card offer in the mail.

cool...i just ordered one along with some pencil lead, erasers, and binders. I needed this stuff anyways, and it's much cheaper here than at my college bookstore :)

Best bet on those things is to carefully tear them in half so you don't damage your name and address (they need to know who it was to/from), put the "preapproved" form, along with all residue, in the postage paid envelope that accompanies the package and mail it back to them.

About a year ago, between me, my wife and 2 college-aged daughters, I was getting 25 or 30 of these things per week. After starting my little campaign as above, I may get one or 2 per week now. Guess they don't like it when they pay postage both ways and don't get another guppy on the line... ;)

Just a recommendation:

Keep the original-box and receipt together and stick it up in your attic (or store at parents if you're away at school).

Ususally they have a 1 year warranty.....so far I've known, including myself, 6 shredders that failed 6 months outside warranty......

Just a thoguht... :)

Just placed my order:

Shredder: 39.99
Pens: 10.99 (SKU 182741, 182733 or 182725 for different colors)
15 of 50: (15.00)
VA Tax: 1.62
Total: 37.60

Pens rebate 10.99 (Pen rebate link)

Net cost of a dozen pens and shredder: $26.61. I can live with that! ;)

Thanks for post BullishDad.

Shredder is $49.99 now, but with $0.20 extra stuff (paper clips - 429266) and free shipping over $50, it comes to my door at $38.29. Still a good deal IMO. I just hope it's better than the one I got at Costco last year. That one crapped out after a couple of days.
