rice? I didn't see any rice in the trailer. Why's everyone bringing that up? Just cause they are asian?

I didn't grow up in an area with a decent number of asians... heck, there still aren't that many asians in white suburban north NJ.

I bet that I wouldn't be able to relate to this movie... just like I thought Joy Luck Club sucked nuts because it made all asian men look like evil friggin bastards. Seems like the movie wouldn't be that different if it was about typical hollywood white students.

I'll still watch the movie so I can voice my displeasure... heh. ;)

question: is this new for East asian americans?

there are quite a few Indian-American films already out for example.

It is a movie with the majority of cast members (including the lead) as asians. That's a good thing I guess

I didn't say there was anything wrong with it. And if you want to be technical, there are less people in/from Scotland than in/from Asia.

So you find that offensive? Rice happens to be the main starch of asia, how is a reference to rice offensive?
Can we talk of corn tortilla on the topic of latin american movies? God forbid we mention wheat and mainstream hollywood in one sentence.. we will offend the white folks....grow up

Yay, it's good to have Americans think all asians are gang-banging twisted mofos... joy, we alll know kung-fu and asian men are evil. Hey, black and latin communities are still screaming bloody murder about lack of accurate portrayals... I'm gonna do the same :D

Honestly, the film industry has never done a good job with authentic portrayal for the most part... it's not an easy thing to do, but it sure is easy to use those stereotypes!

I was the only Vietnamese & 6 other Chinese (2 boys & 4 girls) that gradtuated from a high school class of over 900 students. And, we weren't any thing like that.

I and the 2 Asian males are working in the IT field, 2 girls are accountants & 1 is a lawyer. I don?t know what the other Chinese girl is doing, but after high school she left for a University on the east coast wanting to go into medicine.

That film is a poor generalization of the average Asian teen.

Comparing a country to an entire continent is not really fair. There are more white people in America than Asians (duh).
