Fellow UCLA Bruins...a moment of silence for our basketball team.

Well, what an emotional roller coaster this season was for all of us. We were ranked #4 in the nation preseason and picked to win the Pac 10. We started the year with a less than inspiring defeat at the hands of Ball St. Followed that up with a loss to Pepperdine at home. Just when you think our dream season was turning into a nightmare, we go on a 9 game winning streak. Just when we are think we've finally got it together we lose to our nemesis USC. Just when you think the Bruins are down, we shocked the entire nation with a convincing victory over Kansas, the #1 team in the nation. At Arizona, we blow a 20-point half-time lead and lose by 10 in a 30-point reversal. In the tough competition of the Pac-10, we continue to go up and down by winning on Thursday and losing then losing on Saturday. Finally we are in the tournament, something I thought was in jeopardy. We rout Mississippi and upset #1 seed Cincinnati. Well, what happens next is what happened to us the entire season. We beat a top ranked team and then promptly lose the next game to a lesser opponent. Missouri is a good team but a team UCLA should be able to handle. I just feel sad for our seniors, Dan Gadzric, Matt Barnes and Billy Knight, who took the floor for UCLA one last time. And perhaps Jason Kapono has also played his last game as a Bruin. Despite all the frustrating defeats and unfulfilled expectations of the program, I salute them all bringing us many victories against some of the toughest teams in college basketball. Good luck in the NBA.

Yeah. Congrats on a great season. If people stay, we're gonna have a rockin' conference next year 😉

*sigh*

i highly doubt kapono will go in the draft this year. he had a bad season. he's promoted as if he's a sharp shooter like casey jacobson, but his shooting was very bad this year. i expect him to stay one more year, even if he says he'll consider entering the draft.

I hope he stays...see if the Pac-10 can give the ACC a run for their money 😉

MIZ! ZOU! the pac 10 sucks now, it has always sucked, and it will continue to suck. after texas kicks oregon's ass you'll understand why the rest of the country makes fun of your sports teams. what a goddamn joke. UCLA would have finished 9th in the big 12. hey, play somebody will ya? on the road, or on a neutral floor? no? well, welcome to being a loser conference. should be familiar. (except for Stanford and sports that don't count, like water polo)

Hey diamond-jackass. The pac-10 has won more NCAA national championships than any other conference. UCLA specifically has won more national championships than any other school (87 to be exact). Stanford is #2 with 81 followed by USC with 77. So no, the Pac-10 has never sucked and will not ever suck.

And need I mention the 11 national championships that UCLA has won in basketball, including 7 in a roll.

You are obviously a jackass that don't know anything.

Heh heh...and don't forget that Cal has strung together 7 straight rugby titles 🙂

subzerox, no need for name calling. and it's 7 in a row, not roll. and if you want to count volleyball and water polo, go ahead. have anice off season, go pay more players (like Wooden did) and try again next year.

its gonna be, ON, ON, U of K, all day tomorrow.

if anyone needs a moment of silence its DOOKIE V. i bet the noose is being tightened as i speak.

this is for subzerodipshit, Sam Gilbert. look it up, if you wanna start flaming you picked the wrong guy. i'd have a battle of wits, but i don't fight unarmed guys. hope you enjoy swimming, water polo and women's sports, because that's all the pac-sux will win. great. that's like being the national champ in skating. no one cares.

Diamond-jackass, you know for a fact that John Wooden paid off his players? If you have no evidence to support that ludicrous claim, then don't say it as if it is a fact. Ok, let's not count water polo and swimming, does basketball count then? I bet the Pac-10 has the most national championships in basketball.

anyways, my conversation with you is over.

I started this thread as a tribute to our senior basketball players who have overcome the temptations of the NBA and stayed in school. Unfortunately, some lamers who don't know anything came in here and said a bunch of stupid crap.

what a disheartening game for this bruin.

i hope kapono stays but even with his crappy year he can go in the first round... gadzuric is gone, hines is gone, knight is gone.

hopefully the freshmen will step it up next year.

and UCLA is one of those schools that can recruit on it's all around athletic and academic excellence. not every school in the nation can do that. no one makes fun of the pac-10 - most people saw our division as extremely difficult to play in, as all the teams beat up on each other.

ya, but it says within first SIX years.. come on, these are athletes we're talkin about here 😛 it just takes them a bit longer

-hell shaq just went and got his degree. what more proof do you need?

i know. and the graduation rates are in line with the rest of the student body, but the head in the sand idiots here are pissing me off. if Mr. Gilbert doesn't pay off all the UCLA athletes for 20 years, the revered Mr. Wooden has half (if that many) the titles he has now. the bandwagon jumpers suck. the pac 10 has been weak for many years. deal with it. it's not conjecture. it's fact.

hey, i'm not the one claiming academic superiority. that's Freesia39.

ucla is a nationally ranked school with a high academic reputation while missouri is known for.........?

several athletes at this school state that they choose here over others where they could be the star for ucla academics. that's why ucla can pull in more recruits than others. not to mention high ranking students. can missouri?

if missouri is the one located in colombia, it is a second tier school, compared to ucla's 26, according to us news and reports.

it's great to go to a school that's good in more than one sport... so you can cheer year round instead of one season. women's sports have some hard working athletes that don't sit back and wait for their huge professional contracts because there aren't leagues for them. (WHOLE OTHER DEBATE) it's also good to go to a school that's not known as a jock school... that your degree will mean something when you're done.

i'm out of this, it's just insane. go bruins next year, hopefully kapono will stick around.. even if he doesn't lavin isn't that bad of a recruiter, even with his few minor violations. cheer on the tennis team, we're doing awesome, same with gymnastics.

i don't mind people talking about how ucla chokes alot...cuz it's true that the past three years i've been here we have...

and i don't see what your point in bringing other sports into this is...it just goes to show you ucla is a well-rounded school is and the fact that we don't just throw everything into our basketball program like some other schools
