Fellow RTS gamers, 2007 is gonna be a great year!

Command & Conquer 3

They originally had 3 screenshots when i first heard about this game, but this has some new ones, that first picture looks amazing, im expecting this to be a great game, also Mike Verdu the executive producer (mark skaggs replacement?) says some interesting things. The most interesting is:

"When you click, we want the game to react instantly - there's just no delay from when you give a unit an order and its response. We're setting a very high standard for ourselves - if you play a game that came out perhaps five years ago, it runs just lightning fast on a computer from the present day. It just has this delightfully crisp responsive feel to it, and that's the essence of what we're trying to get to."

A well coded graphically crisp responsive game from EA? Well... theres a first time for everything 😛 Its good they realise that though, as playing older games on todays systems is often actually better than playing newer games on todays systems as they run like crap somtimes.

Oh, and that shot of the city with the tiberium silos... wow.. amazing stuff.

Supreme commander dosent look half bad either

Im not as exited about this as it isnt c&c 😛 but it was mentioned in the c&c 3 review so i looked it up. It dosent seem to be half bad, Chris Taylor from the TA series is behind it, i never played TA but it was really good apparently, back in the days when RTS games were plentiful and generally pretty good, think 1998 (even if a few of the lesser known ones copied c&c)

The main website is Here Theres some really impressive screenshots of naval units etc on it. Its looking like earth 2160, except hopefully itll forego the rock paper scissors type feel that earth had.

Spore

Its been posted here before, this is another really good looking game, RTS seems to be back on track (this isnt an RTS i know, but as an RTS fan this type of game interests me and probably you too) and there seems to be innovation still left in the gaming industry as spore proves. I got no idea what to compare this to... all i can say is what with the abysmal quality of games on the PC today compared to back in 1998-2001ish things fir the first time in a long time seem to be looking up. FPS's are the only genre that have made any leaps since that time period IMO. RTS overall has been stagnant, with a few exceptions. Now if only they would make a starcraft 2 😀

If pc gaming was dying, i think its about to get revived 🙂 Ive not looked forward to a games release since red alert 2.

i'm looking forward to the next Warhammer expansion 😀

but for the record.. starcraft2 (when it comes) > starcraft > DOW > Supreme Commander > C&C

if supreme commander is like total annihilation (only robots), i dont know how i'll be able to play. i HATED the fact that there were only robots in TA

SC is what I am excited about. BUT the system requirements for all these games is going to be high.

The SC people had said they would release SOME idea of what you would need to run it at E3 and they didn't do it. That only makes me think it is going to be a monster.

I'm looking forward to Supreme Commander, Spore, and Caesar 4. C&C3 doesn't interest much, the last good C&C game I played was Red Alert 1, when it was made by Westwood and not EA.

c&c3 looks cool, so does caesar 4. Im also expecting DarkStar One in a matter of a few weeks and praying that will indulge my space sim craving.

only thing i'm wary of is Spore. the amount of hype for that game is incredible, as much as the hype around Black & White which turned out sucked bad. Seeing the demo of the guy playing Spore I just don't see myself enjoying that kind of game. Looks like if I play it through once I wont ever want to play it again. I practically got bored of it just watching the demo =\

You should read the previews if you havent already, from what i can tell EA are not tampering with the core C&C gameplay this time, like they did with generals. This will be what generals should have been, in fact this will be BETTER 😀 since theyve had time to modify the sage engine and think about why generals sucked. The sidebar is back, mammoth tank is back, no wussy mechs, harvesters & mining etc, none of that supply crate bull$hit. Also a 3rd side!! 😱 Cabal? Aliens? Who knows..... Its gonna be killer.

Theyre even bringing back FMV sequences with proper actors. This will be a major step up in terms of quality from EA. They didnt impress me with generals, RA2 was fun as hell although it only ties in with RA1 if you sit and think about it for a while. In fact the entire series only ties in if you sit and think a lot.

SC looks like it is going to be one of the coolest rts games ever!
Spore looks awesome as well, but does it count as a RTS?

C&C 3 doesnt interest me. I lost interest when they put out Red Dawn. /shrug

I can never get excited by previews anymore - it's all just hype. Too many times "can't miss" games do in fact miss, or are forever delayed/cancelled. I just had to chuckle when I saw that TFC2 thread early this week. I still remember the PC Gamer issue (sometime in '98) with TFC2 on the cover. It was allegedly coming in Fall '99 - and yet here we are. Wake me when all this stuff is actually released.

Oh yeah, if memory servers me correct. TFC2 was game of the year in 1999 or something lmao. How a game can be game of the year and never be released shows what a joke magazines are.

I appreciate the gamespy 'iffy' comment for SC. I too am woried about such a large world. I would hope that if, infact, you can have multiple battles going at the same time that there is some kind of built in automation to deploy forces. Otherwise, you'll just end up with major mashups and major army building with big swoops in. If the idea is to actualy be an rt"S" then we ought to beable to use those commanders for some sort of AI on battles we can't pay 100% attention to.

blizzard needs to shunt some development power into starcraft 2 already. f these other companies, with weak imbal uncreative rts games. there's a reason starcraft and wc3 are still going strong these days, even though they are real old now.

I am hugely looking forward to Supreme Commander. Total ANihilation is still my favorite multiplayer RTS of all time.

I read over on the SC forums that the recomended system for the game was said at e3 to be a system with SLI geforce cards. Jeez not too specific.

Thats BS. No studio with a gram of brain matter would make a game that could only shine on a system that 1% of people actually have.

did EA finally fix the unit intel? For years it's been better graphics with the same stupid units where they stand there and get shot and do nothing

Supreme Commander has a lot to live up to as TA was great and it still is. Caesar 3 is where I got hooked on that series so Caesar 4 should be great. Red Alert was the only RTS (along with Starcraft & TA) to come close to my youthful hours spent on Warcraft 2 & Dune 2, after RA1 it became stagnant.

Spore just looks like one helluva game.

2007 is the year I quit my job and devote myself to gaming again.
