Fell into the lake with my 80D

Packing up from a few days at the cabin and I decided to get some shots of the kids towards the evening. Was going back and forth on the dock in my flip flops and my buddy spilt something at the front of the dock. He washed it down but I didn't know it was wet and my foot slid out from under me.
Went tumbling down into the water, camera and nifty fifty. I shot back up and my friends grabbed the camera and immediately started wiping it down and removed the battery etc, but water was coming out of the housing. Worse, it was on when I fell in. Ughhhhhh....

Dry completely and pray. 🙁

Some people dry wet cameras in a bag of uncooked rice where the rice acts as a desiccant. I'd be more inclined to try to find a commercial desiccant .

Yea it's in a bag right now drying. The 50 is also in the bag. It was fogging up when we got home. I think Staples has one of those dissicants I might try on Monday. We'll see. I'm supposed to take pictures for our swim team in the next few weeks. FML.

I looked up my receipt info and forgot that I purchased a square trade warranty. Looks like I'll be cashing in on it. Thank goodness. Anyone ever used ST? Curious how long the process takes.

I used them for a cell phone back in 2010 or so, and it was pretty quick. I think from the time I sent it to them, to getting it fixed and sent back was about 10 business days, or so. Since yours fell in water, I doubt it can be fixed and they would likely send another unit back.

You had the "accidental damage" type policy, right? At least that's how their policies used to be, but I haven't used them in a while, and maybe their policy types have changed (they were bought by Allstate since then).

The only plan I got was the 2 year protection plan. It doesn't specify "accidental" or what not. Im trying to find out what exactly is covered under that plan, not a lot of info in my order history about what's covered.

Well I'm screwed. I bought the protection plan which is the only plan bh offers for refurbished cams. I asked ST and it doesn't cover accidents. Good grief.

That sucks. Yeah, it looks like you are unfortunately out of luck, and the camera will likely be a loss. 🙁

But look on the bright side. At least you didn't didn't end up seriously injuring yourself when you slipped and fell. 🙂
I've known a few people over the years, including a couple family members, who suffered pretty bad injuries from slipping and falling.

Absolutely. I fell in completely unscathed, which was odd. I completely missed both the dock and the rocks along the shore, and fell in at just the right depth to where could just push off the bottom and hop back on. I was in for literally 10 seconds if that. Not a single scratch or bruise!

Even if the electronics were not damaged the water getting onto all the mirrors and prism will affect the optical path. Not sure if a cleaning will ever get it back to its original state either.

I thought about upgrading to a full frame but decided at this time to just get another 80d since the glass I have fits the 80d. I decided to try firing up the messed up camera and it actually turned on! First it said there was no memory card, but when I put it in I got an err 40. I cleaned the batter contact a bit, then I got an err 1. The camera turns on, but I can't auto focus, and other than errors, the lcd screen doesn't work. Prob not worth getting looked at, but maybe I'll give it to my mother in law and if she feels like having some work done to it, she can have it. Had my hopes up for a bit haha.

While Pentax weather sealing is impressive can it really take a full dip into water? I've seen tests where the camera is getting a good shower but that doesn't create as much water pressure as being submerged.
