was buying cheese for my samwiches.

i dont usually fall for marketing but the red on white packaging caught my eye.
dont know why but it just looked good.

taste the same as walmart brand pepperjack but a few cents more expensive.

i didnt fall for the 'big slice' gimmick. its the same weight per slice as walmart brand.. 3/4oz.
thus the big slice is thinner.

but when i tried to remove it from the package i found out its also more brittle. parts of it fell apart

Sliced cheese should always come with paper in between the slices in my opinion.

yes there was paper between the slice. but in peeling the thin slice from the paper, it broke at the separation point where the paper ends

House brands are no longer inferior in many products. Making processed cheese is not rocket science. And major brands don't buy milk that's any different from the house brands milk.

I seldom buy slices. The only sliced cheese I get is occasionally from Aldi when they have smoked Swiss and smoked cheddar slices. Otherwise, I use block cheese, or shredded cheese. I used to shred my own under the assumption that preshredded cheese is more expensive, but it turns out it's usually cheaper. Dunno why. Maybe they use scrap cheese for shredding, so they pass the savings down. Anyway, it's convenient for certain things.

never ever buy pre-shredded cheese if you have a choice, imo.

they put crap in the pre-shredded cheese to prevent it form sticking together.

How is Aldi? They are currently building one in my town. Looks to ready in a few months.

It's not the highest quality, but I find it suitable for things like nachos, and other snacks. I'm not willing to spend extra money and effort for things like corn chips with melted cheese. Not at the current quality point anyway.

Limited, but what they have is very good. Big names only come in as a special purchase, but all their stuff is on par with national brands, and they occasionally get premium quality goods. The produce is limited, and can be iffy, and I have no experience with the meats.

Bottom line... You probably won't want to do all your shopping there, but combining it with another store is a winning strategy. You can save a lot of money without sacrificing quality. It's also kind of fun because the stock changes every week. Downside is they may not have what you want next time you go.

I buy slices or blocks. The pre-shredded cheese is covered in cellulose powder to prevent it from sticking in storage, which also prevents it from sticking when you melt it.

Big slice isn't a gimmick, it's to "fit your bread" right? Never thought of it as more cheese per slice, just a better cheese to bread ratio per bite.

I hate this, they all should just make the paper a wee bit larger so this does not happen.

1st world problems?

On a serious note, you can't pretend to be snooty when you shop at Walmart. No offense.
