Feels good to have a great job.

Was just given an award for being the best senior tech support engineer at my company about a week or so ago. Got a kindle and Bose QC15 noise canceling headphones as a gift.
Now today my boss came with his boss to my cube with a piece of paper and asked me to one of the conference rooms. I thought they were going to lay my ass off when they said that I was getting a $4576 bonus + 4% pay raise.

Probably nothing. Already have everything I need/want. Probably some extra cash when I go to the UK this December. Given the exchange rate, I'd be able to buy a wii with a few pennies (or pence) left over.

Yeah man. And I wasn't among the real lucky ones. All the Japan folk who work for our company swept all the awards. Vacations, $1000+ hotel stays, HD camcorders, Stock options, $10,000 cash etc.
It pays to work well sometimes.

Well, I was one of the few lucky ones. My boss told me that 2 out of 3 of all the prof services engineers didn't get any bonuses. But the folks who performed well did get good rewards.

I work at one and we had a 10% pay cut across the board. Be glad that you've still got what you do.

i'm not sweatin it too much though. i actually excel at what i do and consider myself to be in the top in technical abilities and customer service at my job. even though we took a 4% paycut and no raises for 3 years, i've got great coworkers, a great work environment (except the rewards system) and a good salary. it all balances out.
