Most modders and enthusiasts would have black or silver cases, not beige.

If it is really quiet and ~$50, I can see it taking off. That is how much I would spend to save my power supply from death and peace of mind in that everything is running like it should.

Also, don't video cards today use PCIe power along with the extra power that comes by plugging it in?

maybe OEMs don't like it... but the aftermarket is another story entirely. suddenly that compaq 1710nx isn't a bad option at all.
