another terrible decision by whoever runs these forums, splitting up even more "off topic" subjects into their own category.
i remember the days when ATOT was actually everything that was off topic from the focus of the site, which was hardware. now we have all these stupid ass subforums with way less traffic. back in the day if you refreshed every 2 seconds you would see the OT homepage update.

We have an friggin Home and Garden forum here, but still no IT support forum?
Doesn't the forum admin realize that we now have a ton of users here who now work in IT for a living? We're not just building home PC's for gaming anymore, and we now support networks and server rooms.

That's what they said about The Garage and Health and Fitness, and L&R too. These forums have grown to hold their own.
We are trying to appeal to new members also, not just keep the status quo.
If it flops, we'll just remove it.

Health and fitness and Home and Garden do not need to exist put them back in OT
Move the Garage back into OT
there should only be 1 gaming forums
there needs to be an IT forum
HTPC should just be in Audio Video
Operating systems does not need to exist, just call it windows and move the software and security into it. Mac and *nix already have their own forums
all of the computer components besides Video cards & CPUs should be put back into General hardware

How is having to look through 50 threads in one forum superior to having to look through 50 threads in 5. Or better yet 10 in 2 because the other 40 threads/3 sections are of no interest to you?

you are fairly new here, but those of us who have been around a lot longer remember the good old days when we didn't have 50 different "off topic" forums. it was a lot of fun reading about all the random stuff unrelated to the normal pc/tech stuff that anandtech is all about, all in one place which was the "off topic" forum. now you have to bounce around a bunch of different forums to get that, and many many people have left here since then. the forums now a days have way less traffic.

I actually prefer H&F in its own subforum. Why? Try starting a serious diet or workout thread in OT and see what happens.
I'd actually also prefer a separate subforum for Sports. I suspect it would get a lot more traffic than the Garage or H&F.
This ^ is exactly right.
I was here in "the good old days" and didn't think it was all that special. I like the sub forums, and with the exception of the DC, they've all done well. Even the DC could have been a hit, but CK was far too invested to let it work, he wanted to drive it.

You don't have to click through to the other subforums. The tapatalk timeline view is the perfect view for me. It throws all the latest discussions into one section and I see so many threads that I normally would have missed because I don't regularly click on FS/FT, CPUs, Motherboards, video cards, memory, power supplies, networking, peripherals, general hardware, HTPC, digital cameras, mobile devices, A/V, Software, OS, PC Gaming, console gaming, security, off topic, garage, and hot deals every single time that I'm on a computer.
If there's a way to have that same kind of view on the desktop, I'd be set and you can divide this forum up into 100 different sub forums. I wouldn't care anymore.
Edit: New posts should be what I need, but it returns less than 150 results for me and it limits the results to 25 per page. I'd ideally like 1000 results and 200 per page (no limit per page would be even better!).
