Feedback through speakers

you're hearing feedback from your cdrom through your speakers? What audio cables are running from your CDROM drive to your soundcard?
 
Good guess without knowing your setup would be to move the Mic away or Mute the Mic/line in Volume

SOUNDBLASTER 5.1
TEAC CDROM W/ BASIC CABLE THAT CAME IN BOX
SONY CDRW W/ BASIC CABLE THAT CAME IN BOX
ALTEC LANSING SURROUND SOUND SPEAKERS
1 ON BOARD LAN CARD IN USE
1 NIC INSTALLED FOR CABLE MODEM
1 ONBOARD SOUND CARD (DISABLED)

THE NOISES YOU HEAR ARE BLIPS AND SQUEAKS. THERE IS ALSO A BUZZING SOUND WHEN THE DRIVE SPINS. I HAVE NEVER NOTICED THIS PRIOR TO THE INSTALL OF THIS ECS MOBO. ALSO, THERE IS NO MIC IN USE ON THIS MACHINE.

Ok, I suggest first disconnecting both audio cables to the cdrom/cdrw drives, and verify that it goes away. If it does, then hook up only one drive at a time, and see if you can figure out which one it is.

vizualgirl, thats normal!
You are gonna hear hisses, and "CD-sounds" (ie u can literally hear it spinning). Just go to volume control, and mute the CD. Unmute when you gonna actually use it. There's also gonna be mic noise, or line in noise, as the inputs are sensitive, and they pick up the EM impulses from your pc. Just mute mic, line-in, and cd-audio. Unmute them, if you need them. DO NOT DISCONNECT ANYTHING!!! Ofcourse, unless you're bored, and just wanna check out the innards of yo pc, cuz its not gonna change anything. Its like guitar pickups - they always pick up interference from all the electric appliences in your house. Even the remote control!
So don worry, its PERFECTLY normal. And as for "I havent noticed it with my old mobo" - when u reinstalled the audio drivers, the driver jacked the cd audio, line in all the way up.

Thanks for the advice. I just never noticed this before. A few things have changed over the last 6 months. I rebuilt my computer w/ a new case, mobo, memory and processor and power supply. I was a little concerned when I heard this noise that something was awry.
 
You might also want to check and see if the SB Live is sharing IRQ's with other devices as it loves to hog them...if you can't change the other IRQ's try moving slots on the SB...also look to see if there are new drivers
 
Cmon, i had the sam when i had the Live. Upon install, their drivers (i think all drivers do this) enable all the inputs, and put em at highest level. Its really not complicated at all, and is not on the hardware level. Sound Levels - check -check -check and BAM! Hiss no mo'.

Led, changing IRQ shall not change the situation...unless, she adds a 3-inch lead casing while she's at it 😉
 
Changing IRQ's and/or Slots have fixed many quirks with the SBLive on Puter here on my end 😛

vizualgirl...challenging but you may wanna null if you haven't diminished the problem.
