I am building a new computer for myself. Here's what I plan on getting:

Abit AN8 Ultra
AMD 64 3700+ (939) San Diego
2 gigs of OCZ value memory (OCZ4002048V3DC-K)
Connect 3D x850xt pe (pci) - (I already purchased this one)
250GB Western Digital® Cavier? SE16 SATAII-300 7200RPM 16Mb OEM (WD2500KS)
Pioneer DVR 109BK
Antec Sonata II ATX (450 watt psu)

I plan on using my system for some gaming (Half Life 2), website creation (Dreamweaver) and some DVD authoring. I will not be overclocking my system.

How does it look? I also sent an email to OCZ to see if this ram would work with the AN8 Ultra and have no response back yet. This board isn't listed in their memory configurator thingy:

http://www.ocztechnology.com/support/motherboard/

Has anyone had any experience with this RAM and board combo?

Thanks in advance:)

3700+ prices are supposed to fall soon, so I'd wait 'till then before buying.

Nice rig plans.

I wouldn't change a thing, though your PCI X850XT PE concerns me a bit ;):p

It's gonna be a nice rig. Personally, I would have chosen something else for the motherboard, like an MSI or a DFI, but if you're not overclocking, you'll be perfectly fine with that Abit. I have no idea about the RAM compatibility though.

Why do you like MSI or DFI over Abit. I know that the DFI allows more options for overclocking but this doesn't really concern me.

Mainly because I had actual experience with those brands, and I know they build quality products and that they both offer nice support. Abit seems to have a good reputation, and their boards are getting good reviews too, but I never had one, nor any of my friends. That's why I can't really tell you if it's a good board or not, so instead, I suggested brands that I know and trust.

Thanks Ark Angel. I appreciate your honesty. I myself am leaning toward Abit as this will be my 3rd Abit motherboard. They also seem to stand behind their products like MSI and DFI. During the bursting capacitor thing a few years back Abit fixed motherboads with the problem while some other companies stuck their head in the sand. I tend to keep my computers for a while so the fact that they stand behind their product appeals to me.

That Abit mobo is excellent.

No need to change it IMO.

Oooops! Sorry:) I have a bunch of guys over at AMD telling me to get performance ram. I just don't see the point if I'm not going to be overclocking and pushing my system to the max.

I can get 2 gigs of value ram for the cost of 1 gig of the high performance stuff. It just doesn't seem to make sense for my situtation. . . .

Any thoughts on this?

Keep your Value RAM, performance RAM is pointless for A64 since higher bandwidth doesn't really affect the performance of the system because of the integrated memory controller of the chip. You would see a boost in Sandra or such apps, but almost no difference in real world performance. You can check the sticky on the top, about the memory performance with A64 if you wanna see some numbers.

very nice system, i wouldn't change anything.

if you don't overclock, go with value ram. hell, even if you do overclock, value ram will still work fine - you can use dividers.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Ark Angel and Brikis, what you say makes lots of sense to me. I don't care about a few points on the benchmarks and if I ever do decide to overclock I can run a divider as you say Brikis.

That sticky at the top rocks Ark Angel. Thank you Zebo and all of the others for doing on that work on ram comparisons!

Out of value ram which one would you guys recommend:

or

VS512MB400C3

OCZ and Corsair are both very good companies, you can't go wrong with their RAM.

The only thing you should do is see if you can find a compatibility chart, as some boards are picky about RAM. I'd guess either one will work fine, but check the Abit site to be sure and google around and see if anyone has had issues.

Corsair Value is good ram, and I don't think there will be any issue with your board, but I'd still take OCZ over Corsair, mostly for their excellent support. Hell, they even have two techs here, in Anandtech forums, to help you solve your problems, if you have any. Just my 2 cents.
