I was wondering about anyones experiences (good, bad, bizarre) with Linux user groups- specifically the ones you attend in person. I am particularly interested in anyones knowledge of (a good) one in Boston, MA. area...

I've never had any bad experiences with the LUGs I've attended. They vary from highly structured meetings (with formal speakers) to completely unstructured "hang-out sessions".

My advice would be try out all of the ones close to you. If you don't like one, don't go back.

If you don't mind my asking, is there a particular reason for seeking out a LUG?

Not really. Just for fun.Im' not really a newbie or anything, but want I really want to know is about LUG's in my area. I've only been able to find one listed online. When I checked out some jpegs it looked like a bunch of old men, Not really my speed.:D Would'nt you think that Cambridge/Boston area would be hot for this sort of thing?

Depends on the time of year -- with college getting out, a lot of the students who would be involved are gone. The weekly LUG I attend -- which is loosely affiliated with a college -- has seen its attendence drop by two-thirds since the end of May!

Doing a couple of searches, the only active page I could find was: Boston Linux and Unix. Maybe check out some of the local colleges and tech centers (like training centers and non-chain stores)?

Sorry I couldn't be more help.

Yeah, BLU is what you want. They are one of the old SIGs of the old BCS (Boston Computer Society) which is now defunct. Many of the old SIGs kept meeting and have active groups in their own right. Get ahold of them, they are a great bunch of ppl.

If I were closer to Boston I would be checking in with them. But, I live in Central MA, north of Worcester.
