I am ready to build a new pc and would love to get your thoughts using the following parameters;
  • I prefer a power efficient gaming set-up and am ok sacrificing some dollars/performance in order to keep it power efficient and silent
  • Also, I prefer reusing some parts in order to save some money,
the 400W 80+ Platinum ATX12V modular PS being the main constraint…

  1. The pc will be used for:
    • MS office
    • some video editing
    • various games (Paradox, Mount & Blade, Total War)
  2. Budget around $600 for CPU, Motherboard, Memory & Video Card
  3. I prefer reusing CPU Cooler, SSD, HD, m-ATX Case & Power Supply
  4. I will buy the parts in the US (Amazon or Newegg)
  5. I do not overclock
  6. I use 1920x1200 resolution
  7. I plan to build it next week
  8. Don’t need to purchase any software
Here’s what I came up with:

According to PCPartPicker, I get to an estimated max Wattage of 280W, which should leave plenty of headroom before maxing out at 400W.

One item I am really questioning is pursuing the i5-6600T over a regular i5-6500… I wonder if the 6500 draws less/runs cooler when under load?

Thank you in advance for any recommendations and/or feedback!!

A "T" processor runs cooler at load. That's the whole point. It's also slower at load.

Don't get a 970. A RX480 may be faster and cooler. So may a GTX 1060. RX cards come out next Wednesday.

I had no idea about the RX480/GTX1060. Reading into it I agree, waiting makes sense. Thanks for the response and tip!!
