"If those who are the target of the trespass investigation are a group then that is more than appropriate to investigate and subpoena related info - no?"

So if I alledgely trespassed on a military base, it would be ok for the Federal government to do a full inverstigation of you, since we are both members of this forum ?

If we plotted the trespass here - yes.

AT would be investigated - no doubt.

Would the rest of us be questioned? I'm sure we would.

Are you worried about what you post here? I'm not.:)

na, i don't feel i have anything to be conserned about my personal position at this point. besides, the AT thing was just a figurative example. as novel and idea as it may sound to you, my consern in this topic is for the rights of others.

I do not fear the terrorists as much as I fear what our Government has become - in response to the threat of terrorism.
The Government is using the element of 'fear' as a weapon against it's own people - to manipulate them emotionally.
I find that disgusting, and of a bigger threat than that actually presented by those terrorists.
Paranoids.

EDIT: Stupid keyboard can't spell !

But that doesn't match the scenario in the article. Me and the Snowman could have formed the plot while having a pizza down the street, but since we are both members of anandtech now the entire membership of Anandtech should be investigated ?

That doesn't match the scenario either. If you and others of your group plotted as a group to do it - your group will be investigated even if not all members participated. Look at it this way. If anandtech was a meeting place for warez...oh lets say in the now defunct private forums - it subjects Anandtech to investigation...and guess what? The private forums no longer exist because people abused them with warez according the the Administration and MODs here. It was a liability for Anandtech and they could/would have been investigated and subpoenaed as an organization if a crime had been committed and pursued by authorities. THAT more closely resembles the scenario than someone meeting in a pizza parlor and then trying to link it to anandtech.

Anyway it looks to be a mute point since some subpeanas have been withdrawn/postponed and it looks like some people made this out to be more than it was.

Anti-war inquiry unrelated to terror - Probe focuses on unlawful entry at Camp Dodge

<snip>
Federal officials Monday said a grand jury inquiry involving four peace activists and Drake University is not part of an anti-terrorism investigation.

U.S. Attorney Stephen Patrick O'Meara said late Monday that the investigation focuses on unlawful entry onto military property at Camp Dodge on Nov. 16, and whether plans were laid for that at a conference the day before at Drake.

Suggestions that the investigation is related to the Patriot Act "are not accurate," O'Meara said.
...
"The United States attorney emphasizes that the investigation regarding any attempted breach of the security fence at the Iowa National Guard Base is dangerous both to the person or persons attempting to breach the security fence, as well as a legitimately perceived danger to the base itself," he said.

Cad, my friend, you have totally missed the point. The fact they tried to subpoena the university for a routine trespassing investigation makes it worse, not better. If they will attempt such heavy-handed tactics for a relatively minor offense, how many civil liberties will they trample for something serious?

No one ever guaranteed that you have civil liberties, because you're a terroristic dissenter. You're only right is to be killed like the un-American insurrectionist you are.
