Improper clearance of MCSO cases.

Sorry, I should have used the same terminology.

Let me paraphrase my original post:

"Maricopa county is sued a lot, way more than any other place in the country. In some of these lawsuits, federal courts have ruled that jail conditions are Unconstitutional. Others have resulted in humongous payouts to the victims."

I presented the number of lawsuits as a single piece of supporting evidence. It suggests that something is seriously wrong in Maricopa county, but it wasn't intended to prove that MCSO is corrupt; the federal court rulings and humongous payouts are much better evidence of that.

The absurd number of lawsuits cost taxpayers a ton of money, so they'd be a problem even if they were all frivolous. And in that case a competent sheriff would bust his ass to figure out why he's being sued so much more often than everyone else in the nation. Arpaio has consistently responded with a flippant attitude and no legitimate attempt at explanation.

I'm not seeing what's off base. We agree that Maricopa county is the target of 2000+ abuse lawsuits, and (presumably) that they have a low double-digit crime closure rate.

So how many of those thousands of lawsuits have resulted in convictions? Of course the guy is a HUGE target for lawsuits. Do I support the abuse allegations? Nope. Do I support his fervant pursuit of going after illegals and companies who hire them? Yep. Sure do. Because he is so aggresive, that makes him a target.

So how many convictions are there? In about 10 minutes of Googleing I found a couple. Literally, a couple. But I may suck at Googleing, too.

Wow or Wow blackagaist1, as your contention becomes because Sheriff Joe has thus far survived being totally dope slapped, he will thus forever escape being totally
dope slapped.

Tell that to the Japs who had a 3000 year history of escaping that Chinese dope slap, or South Africa who lasted so long, or even Richard Nixon in Watergate who so long stalled being dope slapped, or we could cite Tom Delay, or put the bribe in a refrigerator Mr. Jefferson, but the end of the day, all those folks, for all their ducking, bobbing and weaving, it did not prevent all those folks from getting their just deserts.

Ole Sheriff Joe has been asking for it for a very long time, and when the end comes, they often end up in the slammer. As their fall is far swifter than their rise.

Sort of like an English Fox chase, tally ho and all that stuff, but when the Fox leads them a merry chase and gets finally driven to ground, all that is left of the fox thereafter is a grease spot.

As for that the date when Sheriff Joe was finally driven to ground will be 12/23/2011. When a Federal Judge ruled against Joe on all counts.

Wow or Wow Lemon Law....you suck at reading. Here...let me quote myself from the previous page:
Look. Im not defending the guy. If half of what the latest federal allegations are true, Joe should be thrown in jail. But to make claims that far off base, well...

You believe "illegal immigrants are bad" some of us believe "the laws that make it hard for people to immigrate legally" are bad. They are going to climb walls, swim across rivers, wait in queues, pay money, or do absolutely everything and anything they can to come into the USA. If we make it harder to get in, sure, a smaller number might succeed, but, it isn't going to solve anything. The only solution to illegal immigration is for Mexico to get it's shit straight, and for the quality of life in Mexico to rise. That is the only total solution.

Illegals aren't "invading", they are coming because they want to have a shot at the American dream. If we treat them like criminals, they'll act like criminals. But, I'll tell you this, if I lived in that shithole across the border, I'd do whatever it took to make it north. And I suspect 99% of everybody who things illegal immigration is a problem would also do the same....

This country needs major immigration reform. The statue of liberty says "Give me your tired, your poor/Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free." In doesn't say "fuck you if you aren't American." The message of America is one of majestic greatness, not of elitist greed.

Legal immigration is ok just ask those who made it with out cheating.

The problem with illegal immigration is with the USA. we may not be able to prevent illegal immigrants from coming in, but when the US employers hires those cheaper illegal immigrants instead of demanding documentation pre-hire, illegal immigrants will find it worth the gamble.

Meanwhile many US farmers are going broke because they can't find the US labor to pick their seasonal crops.

Convictions are for criminal court; civil court has judgments. In any case, they usually settle out of court. The Wikipedia article notes four of the most egregious cases of abuse, and a quick search yielded some others: Here are seven more, and another, and two more, and another.

I imagine that the majority of suits are dismissed, as is generally the case with civil rights lawsuits. PACER probably has detailed info, but I don't know of an easy way to aggregate it.

Anyway, after reading this report by the NYC Comptroller, I have to strongly question whether Wikipedia's "50 times" number is correct. This document notes thousands of annual claims against NYC, though I'm not sure if they mean lawsuits, complaints or what. Of course, that doesn't exonerate MCSO, as there are still ample judgments, settlements and other evidence detailing serious institutionalized misconduct. As I said previously, the number of lawsuits was just one interesting "fact", not an argument in itself.

Do I support his fervant pursuit of going after illegals and companies who hire them? Yep. Sure do.

I support the general idea of deporting illegals and penalizing their enablers, but Arpaio's implemention is appalling.

Crops were being picked well before there was an illegal flood.

What has changed?

Again, the Federals are not doing their constitutional assignments.
