Seems they were distributing Star Wars before it hit theaters.

article

Elite Torrents had more than 133,000 members and offered 17,800 movies and software programs in the past four months, officials said. Among those titles was "Star Wars: Episode III ? Revenge of the Sith," which was available through Elite Torrents six hours before its first showing in theaters, the officials said.

What I want to know is what the hell the Department of Homeland Security has to do with copyright infringement? I remember that bizarre story about the patent infringment they investigated at some woman's toy shop. Folks, 1984 may be upon us....

Must guard the empire's interests... dum dum dum -da dum.....

You will now feel the power of a fully operational homeland security!

kn33l b1tch3s!

President Bush signed a new law last month setting tough penalties of up to 10 years in prison for anyone caught distributing a movie or song prior to its commercial release

Finally. Need law with teeth to stop the theft. I just wish they'd chop hands off but they don't.

I think Terrorism was just a good excuse to create a new Police force with expanded powers. Sounds like something that should be disbanded at the first opportunity.

DHS has as a component Customs. Customs is responsible for the import/export of goods & services as assigned by the constitution. Being that in both cases goods were being imported/exported it would seem logical that customs is involved, no?

Yup I have all the ports for this stuff blocked at my house..only allow 80, 21, 22 and 443.

I am wondering how they will handle a kid whose parents arn't as judicious as I am..like most parents I'd think.

Will the give the parents 10 yrs? After all it's thier account fed into thier home. The children?

Logic has no place here. Leave this thread. ;-)

Mainly because Bush was told battle droids wouldn't be feasable for another 40 years or so 🙂

That's the dumbest thing ever...

Yeah, I mean I know that something should be done about the whole thing. Unauthorized copyright infringement (please don't call it theft or, even worse, piracy) is a problem that needs addressing. But give me a break, it's getting to the point where I would get in less trouble if I just beat the sh!t out of the next person I see walking down the street than if I download a movie off of the internet. Does that make sense to anyone?

Oddly enough, yes.

It's about priorities, but who's?

Thankfully, enforcement of illegal filesharing is advancing much slower than filesharing technology. Everything is becoming decentralized, encrypted, and rerouted. And now more then ever, offshore.

Busts like this were done to grab headlines and scare newbies.

The movie and music industries have practically unlimited financial resources to deploy in lobbying politicians to get their way.

"President Bush signed a new law last month setting tough penalties of up to 10 years in prison for anyone caught distributing a movie or song prior to its commercial release."

How much money is being contributed to Republican fund raising efforts by the movie/ music industries?

Actually I think 1984 started in about 1984. It's just taken this long for the seeds to sprout.

Must bug you that everyone on these forums is doing it.

Only a moron would risk their future and property for the sake of helping people steal a movie to save $10-20.

And that is what torrent is, it isn't just stealing the movie for your own use, it's distributing the stolen property to others.

The MPAA/RIAA owns Washington.

I used to keep a thread going on all this but the Elite in here continued to say none of this would happen and that it is OK for the MPAA/RIAA to get Police powers.

But hey, this is what the Country wants, this is what they get.

Why is that the dumbest thing ever? Is it because you do it and you don't see it as wrong? Because you are a good person and when you do it, it's different, right. . .?
