Fedora Core 2 Problems

Everytime I boot up my computer (which was optimized for WinXP) to FC2, my processor fan's RPM will not decrease. It is really getting annoying. Is there anyway I can decrease the RPM's in linux?

its a Asus TUSL-LV Socket 730(Celeron) with Via Chipset OEM from Sony.

(I know, I know, its crap)
