That is correct. If you live next door to me and send me a package FedEx 3 day, it might just sit in their warehouse for 2 days since you only paid for 3 day and not next day.

This happened to me few times. You probably got free shipping correct?

nope...paid extra to make sure I had it by Christmas...I want to say I spent $16 on three day...somewhere around there

Yes, FedEx will sit on it until it is due to be delivered.

I've had it happen a few times, also have received items sooner than the expected delivery date.

the way it works as explained to me by fedex tech support was that if the drivers are having a slow day then they don't mind taking the stuff that's not due for delivery that day if they have it early. other days they are swamped and deliver stuff when they are supposed to.

safe enough to say they are pretty swamped this season as usual

You paid for 3 day delivery, you're b1tching because you didn't get it early?

Fedex is pretty anal about that. They're having a giant surge of holiday traffic as it is and some people aren't even getting their overnight packages on time.

They usually do this because no drivers are going to be close enough to your area... While they may be closer than they will be the next day, they are more concerned about getting the packages delivered that MUST be delivered on that day, so that their drivers aren't out until 7 or 8 at night*. I actually asked a FedEx guy about this.



For all you people who say that 7 or 8 isn't late.. at some points of the year it is pitch black by this time, which makes it hard to find a house, let alone in an area you aren't too familiar with.. not only that, but the increased risk of robbery is there.
