Wow that's pretty sweet! I've never seen such a thing before. Its funny how jsut as the storm reached the airport, all the planes scatter but two or three went ahead and landed anyway. Those are the bold pilots, not the old pilots.

Looks like they diverted to St Louis or Dallas. Maybe a special truck pickup or to try again tomorrow.

The hub for UPS in Louisville probably has just as many planes.

Lol watching that I see a mess of plans make for the airport but then the thunderstorm beats them and they scamper off flying around in random directions btu then they started to disappear one by one. I was like WTF are they crashing? Then I realized there's probably several airports there they have diverted to ...

I worked at the FedEx hub in Indianapolis a few years ago. Lots of planes came in every night (not sure exactly how many), but the Memphis hub is approximately 10x the size of the Indy one (Memphis is biggest, followed by Indy). They told a story during orientation of a new guy at the Memphis hub who got lost trying to get back to his car. He wandered around the hub all night until someone finally found him the next morning and helped him back to the parking lot. I'm not at all surprised by the number of planes in this video.

If I'm reading it right... according to the 2004 Annual Report they had (as of 2004) 645 aircraft in their fleet, and roughly 196,000 employee/contractors.

Reference #'s... ones I find at least:

United: 460 aircraft & 57,000 employees (as of 12/05)
Continental: 356 aircraft & 42,000 employees (as of 12/05)
UPS: 268 Owned, 309 Leased, 39 on order, 10 options, aircraft & 407,000 employees
American & American Eagle: 1,001 aircraft & 88,400 employees

To let those airplanes land was the decision of the airport, not of the pilots.

The UPS main hub in Louisville...

It's miles from your car to the hub. You can see them steadily taking off at night. One right after the other. To say they have a steep takeoff angle out be an understatement.
