FedEx delivered my package to the post office

I decided to check the tracking of an item I ordered that said shipped last week, on fedex it shows it was delivered and signed for by someone I've never heard of.

I call them up and they said it was delivered to the post office so that the post office could deliver it to me? WTF is that? Why did I pay for FexEx shipping if the post office is going to deliver it then?

I've never in my life experienced this and have had plenty of items shipped to me.

I'm 😕 by this.

Anyone else ever have this happen?

My dad (USPS city carrier) told me that FedEx and USPS have a deal where they share their services with each other. Like USPS can use FedEx planes and FedEx can put their boxes at Post Offices. I've never heard of USPS delivering FedEx packages though, I guess it's something new they're doing.

I don't like it because I can't track an actual status of it now since it shows as delivered.

I don't mind USPS delivering it, had I known that prior, since if I'm not home then they'll put it in a lock box and leave the key in my (locked) mail box, so I don't have to worry about missing the delivery at least.

 
i think i've seen fedex deposit boxes in/by the post office, so maybe they're extending their partnership.
 
FedEx Home still delivers directly to my door. I'm guessing it is, because you are in a unique area with a different FedEx service.
I know that DHL @ Home uses USPS as the final carrier in the package delivery if anybody does bother using DHL @ Home.
 
It's called Smart Post by FedEx. Basically it's for ultra low cost shipping. Fed Ex aggregates all shipments going to one geographical area at a central hub going and then once this package/pallet gets large enough they send it to their (FedEx) hub in that geographical region. From there, FedEx disburses it to the local post offices, who in turn deliver it to the homes.

This can be painfully slow (I had something from NC to UT take 15 days to get to me) or surprisingly fast (had something just come to me in 5 days). I think it mostly depends on the vagaries of FedEx collecting enough stuff at the hub before sending it out. Once it gets to the post office, I've been finding it only takes 1 to 2 days from the post office to me.

I guess it makes more sense to send the package to the houses in a vehicle that's already going there anyway, rather than sending a full truck out to a rural area for one or two packages.
