fedex lost a computer i sent to someone, and i have to claim for it. it was a fairly nice computer too so i am pretty mad. anyways, if you have claimed before, have you been able to easily get your claim?

i was told over the phone that i can print out the price of all the components and include that (from say pricewatch) since it was a custom built machine, and i would get the claim? will that work. i dont have all the reciepts, so they said they would pay for equivalent replacement.

You'll need the receipts for all the parts in the computer for FedEX to process the claim. If you don't have them they'll tell you sorry but no check.

:Q //Me looks over at two 2" slant D 3-ring binders that have ALL the receipt from computer parts for the last 3 years.

I keep reciepts for my important purchases. Computer purchases to me are important.

I have a special folder for computer receipts. It only takes up an 8.5" x 11" x 1" space. On more than one occasion, I've had to pull out the receipt for a legitimate purpose. I do hope that FedEx is able to work with the "estimates" that you sent to them. However, if they don't pay you, consider it to be a good lesson learned towards keeping your receipts.

Oh, one other note about keeping receipts. Even if you don't have to actually use them, pulling them out every now and then is good for a laugh: "What, I paid ##.## for that?"

Regarding the FedEx claim process: About a year ago, I did have to file a claim with them. They damaged a 200-disc CD player that I was shipping to someone who had purchased it. I filled out the claim form, provided them with a copy of the receipt and within a month, I received a check for the original price of the item along with the shipping charges refunded (because I asked for it.) The process was painless - and they didn't even go to pick up the non-working unit from the recipient.
