FedEx and UPS - isn't it odd that they only deliver when people shouldn't be home?

Seriously - I'm waiting for 2 pretty important packages and attempts were made at 11:10 AM and 12:30... They always deliver around that time and, really, who's home that time on a weekday?!??

Yeah, yeah, yeah. I should just pick it up from the depots that are located in industrial parts of the city with no public transportation and.. ARGH! It just doesn't make sense to me.

It all depends on where you are on the drivers route. All my packages get delivered from 4:00-5:00pm.

If they can do assembly of products at our plant at work when I walk in at 10pm, I think they should ship packages at 10pm too. Swing shift FTW.

Probably more of their packages are delivered to a business, which is usually open from 8 to 5. It doesn't make sense for them to deliver at night.

And another good chunk of their packages can simply be left at the door of houses. 99.9% of packages aren't valuable electronics from newegg, despite what all of you think. Plus, it's not like they could realistically deliver packages after 9 PM, as people would be asleep, and the drivers would be more prone to get mugged.

So, in this "ideal" world, they'd deliver from 4:30 to 8:30, and in order to handle all the packages in less time, they'd need many more trucks and drivers, doubling or tripling the cost of package delivery.

Yes, it's a PITA when you can't easily get YOUR package, but there's usually a good reason businesses act the way they do. They are beholden to customers, after all.

Most UPS and FedEx packages are on time schedules as well. Overnight is usually 10-12 or the shipper gets a refund, so they can't exactly deliver on your terms. Not to mention with UPS stores and FedEx Kinko's stores damn near everywhere you can easily have them hold the package for you if you know you won't be home to receive it.
