federal/state/SS tax in California

I have about a 38k salary, 23 and single. I get taxed about 25% after combining federal/state/SS taxes. 11% goes to federal taxes. Is this right? Anyway I can save on taxes w/o getting married?

Get a tax deferred savings plan. That's pretty much it unless you can figure out how to claim multiple personalities as dependants.

There's a federal law on the books that says you're allowed to set up a medical savings plan using pre-tax income, deducted monthly from your paycheck. Unfortunately whoever you work for has to support it, but it's there.

buy a house - although in CA that is impossible on your salary.

The rich get richer (they can afford the tax breaks) and the poor struggle to get by
