This is totally and utterly divorced from the reality of the situation. Some kid who's parents have been murdered or that a gang/cartel it trying to force into their organization can't "advocate for better government".

Nationalism - Being born into a wealthy first world country, bitching about it, and shitting on those that weren't.

Now now, I'm sure the governments battling these murderous cartels are going to look at how the US lost track of some immigrant children and say to themselves 'okay, I guess we should start cracking down on these mass murderers for real'.

If that was possible it would be then right thing for the native Americans to do. We sailed across the Atlantic and set up shop like we owned the place (and genocide and slavery to boot). Immigration isn’t always a good thing.

Whoosh, but native Americans appreciate your concern.

What do you think was whooshing? The idea that our 21st century immigration policies should mirror the "policies" of first nations people from 500 years ago? What other common practices would you like us to leverage from those days, how about the total lack of any firearm restrictions whatsoever? I'll bet if the Powhatan had imposed a waiting period and background checks for guns then a lot fewer of them would have gotten killed by Captain John Smith and his buddies.

I’ll bite, what?
You think the military isn't doing its job well? Why do you hate our troops?

Is it your position that the federal government is inherently incapable of handling national responsibilities? Or just that under current leadership it is doing a terrible job at everything?

Maybe they just went home?
As a foe of illegal immigration, this story does nothing to me. Parents, if you want to know where your kids are, keep watch over them. Sorry to come off like an insensitive ass, but seriously, this should not be my, or your problem.
Only an insensitive ass would think they have no responsibility for unaccompanied children no matter what their country of origin is. It's called being human.

Yeah, ok, I get that. BUT, what are the adults doing, sitting around drinking tequila, smoking crack and their kids are running away? Decent adult citizens should be standing up and working toward fixing their countries, not telling their offspring," hey, go get into the USA, they'll fix every thing for you."

America, north and south, have pretty much the same natural resources. Why is America so great and prosperous, but not the other countries on the continents? If they can't make their own countries do well, they won't do it here. Instead, they will bring our country to the level of where they came from, given enough time and exposure. Example, I've got a friend named Joey from Iran. He is always complaining that his parents refuse to assimilate, not be cause they don't try, but they just refuse. I'm not into immigrants who do not value our country, but only want to live here for their own selfish reasons. They'll never be Americans, for they don't give a shit. They only want the benefits of living in the country.

Merit based immigration is the answer, not this unfettered, come any, come all bullshit we've been going through.

No that will be all, for now. Going off to explore why conservatives worship a liberal, Jewish carpenter...;)
Its amazing that christian conservatives worship the liberal son of god. As that's exactly what you'll find Jesus to be.

His dad on the other hand, the authoritarian douchebag that conservative ideology jives with.

What you'll find, if you care to look, is worldwide, conservative values flow between religions fluently.

Now, back to the topic, you should probably go read about Europeans decimating south, central, and north America's indigenous populations, and how our very own authoritarian values have created situations we have come to disregard as everyone else's problem.

US policy, in large part, destabilized their nations leading to the insane violence that is happening now. These kids are literally in most cases fleeing for their lives.

I really don't think you comprehend what has happened. Framing this as some kind of moral failure to work hard is cynical beyond belief and factually wrong.

Isn't being selfish the American way? After all, you're the embodiment of the FYGM mindset.

Also, way to make assumptions and perpetuate stereotypes. It's easy to pretend that the kids' parents are all crackheads, or that decent parents aren't trying to make their countries better. But you know damn well that it's not that simple. Like Joey's parents -- sure, they'll just wait until they've overthrown a regime that has regularly defeated advocates of major reforms in the past four decades.

And I don't think we should be insisting that people be completely subsumed into "Americanness" (whatever that is, exactly). It certainly helps to speak English, but I wouldn't want someone to give up customs that don't hurt other people. I want Iranians, Mexicans and others to feel comfortable practicing their religions, using their languages when they can, and holding on to other traditions. I don't want them to feel like they have to give up their identity just to be in the country.

In which the President blames an incredibly cruel policy he implemented on others in a bid to provide leverage in an argument to drastically curtail legal immigration to the US and build an expensive, but useless, wall.
