Why? Is it not safe?

He might do a similar thing to what I do, a crude form of sandboxing :) I use a different browser for porn, to keep things separate.

The logic behind using online banking in a different browser could be to avoid a possible malicious add-on/plug-in/whatever that gets installed without you noticing. Firefox gets used as my main browser including banking.

I've been using Firefox for years, but lately I find it slow and quite annoying. I can't tell exactly why. I'm considering moving to Chrome, but first I want to know whether it has major problems.
Check your add-ons and plug-ins lists (remove/uninstall anything unnecessary, and ask about things you can't remove), but also check in Tools > Options > Advanced > Network to see how much your disk cache is using ("cached web content", it's referred to as these days). I occasionally see FF or IE with an out-of-control disk cache, and it really slows them down. In that scenario I set it manually to 100-250MB. I also check the filesystem locations where each cache is stored to ensure that the browser is giving me correct figures.

Doesn't Google track everything you do in Chrome? I thought that was the main reason it was invented - lol. I don't know much about the details on how the tracking works (to help their search engine?), but sounds like useless overhead I don't need/want. A custom Chromium build might be better (?).

No. I get people are paranoid about Google at times but no, Chrome doesn't somehow send all your browsing history to the mothership.

The only thing about Chrome that can even come close to that is the Suggestions feature where when you type in the URL bar, it tries to auto-complete what you type by giving you suggestions, just like it does in google search itself. Of course, it's easily disabled in options.

Also, if you don't need features like syncing across multiple devices/platforms, then you also don't need to associate Chrome with your Google account.

I don't use Chrome, Firefox has problems with Flash so maybe after a month of using Opera it will be my main browser.
To be frank, I've had some issues with Flash using Chrome as well. Not sure what the cause. But Opera was glitch-free. I have 4 installed and use them all, gotta say IE/Opera both have been very stable lately.

Got to say, constant version upgrading with FF is very confusing.

I don't get all the complaining about firefox lately. I haven't had any memory leaks, crashes, or performance issues since v4. I definitely don't see how it is bloated either. It has gotten nothing but faster. I live in my browser for hours and hours a day, and use it extensively, and I still haven't had issues. I've had more problems with chrome and IE than anything. I like opera as well. That's what I use in linux. The only Addons I use for FF is adblock plus and Do Not Track+

yeah i'm with you there. I Rarely have any problems with firefox. I also think that fewer addons is usually best for stability.....

The issues I have are with flash, not Firefox, I have issues with flash in all the different browsers I've used.

My favorite on either Win or Linux is Firefox. I like the addon security features. I also like Opera although it's a touch more bulky than FF. I won't use Chrome. I'm trying to get further away from Google not closer to them.

My wife has stability problems with FF and the recent version of Flash (11.3); The Flash plugin would often crash, and Flash games had problems keeping up with animations and would exhibit painting issues. Downgrading to 11.2 fixed it. I haven't tried 11.4 on her machine yet.

A lot of people had problems with 11.3 and FF, but still a small percentage. None of my customers (many of whom use FF) have reported Flash problems.

Same problem here. Not sure, how Adobe could have dared to release such a glitchy product. Long live HTML5.

The latest Chrome doesn't let my recently acquired Geforce GT 640 use hardware acceleration (1080p) on YouTube. Au contraire, it works as it should with the latest Firefox and Opera.

2) Chrome Spellcheck still doesn't work reliably for me.

For these two reasons... I can't use Google Chrome as my main browser as it gives me inferior experience compared to the other browsers on the market. Such a shame :)

My latest suggestion - try Firefox 15, it is great and I think they've fixed a lot of the latest issues with this version.

aah I was just about to ask which recent version of FF is good/fast/stable/etc. After an annoying upgrade of FF which slowed things down and messed things up, I've become very reluctant to upgrade needlessly. So 15 is good eh?

FF 15 has been working well for me. But, Opera seems to render stuff on screen a bit faster for me. Maybe HW acceleration isn't working as intended on FF for me. Things on Opera get rendered instantaneously whereas with FF it takes a visible lag (especially true when you open a new tab). Back to Opera for now.

okey firefox has become rediculous heavy. it takes for ever to launch. it crashes or the jave crashes inside him.
so what are my options

1)internet explorer!
2)opera
3)safari
4)crome!!!
5)stick at firefox
6)other

which browser you prefer? and why?
One thing I like about Firefox is that it is less prone to virus / malware infection, and seems to be a bit faster than the Internet Explorer. But then I'm only comparing to the IE6, 7, and 8.

But I am starting to not like Firefox too much anymore. Know why? Well read below..

- On windows systems, after installing FireFox updates, it takes forever to start Firefox browser.... This has happened to many many Windows computers. So it is clearly the coding / engineering failure.

- 100% Official Statement from the Supreme Court Judges: FireFox browser version 15 does not work with NetFlix. You can't stream movies with this version. It says you don't meet requirements. Install Firefox v12 or newer. Well, duh, it's v15 you moron. I tested this on two different PC's with same problem. So once again, coding / engineering failure. My Dad got pissed as heck and cussed at FireFox. I agreed. I said Firefox = Ghey :D

I load IE8 on them. Works flawlessly streaming movies from Netflix. Look, I don't watch Netflix movies. This is for my Dad. He called IT support.... me.

Firefox updates is a fail. So if you want speed issue resolved don't download updates. After installing a fresh copy of FF, disable the automatic updates in FF.

Netflix issue still hasn't resolved. Internet Explorer is the compatibility king.

And for Mac, I use FF, without the updates. Hasn't given me any troubles.... and l don't watch netflix movies so I don't even go there...

No the version 15 is a fail. Version doesn't support Netflix downstream movies... You'll have to use old version of Firefox to watch this. That's a big time fail.

Internet Explorer is superior. Heck, even the ancient version 6 you can downstream Netflix movies.... talk about superior coding.

Clearly the best way to judge how good a web browser is, is by looking at how good it can stream Netflix.

The issue with Netflix is that Silverlight is crap.

Anyone remember that Fishtank test?

Chrome appears to be running it @ 60 FPS (Vsync On) w/ 1000 fish onscreen (Firefox & Opera miserably fail in this one, haven't tested IE). Well done Google. Hardware acceleration in full use. Too bad it still can't use its own YouTube Full HD videos, appears to be hogging my CPU cycles instead :D

it matters for some people since that's all they use. There's no reason why firefox shouldn't stream netflix well.

It's not Mozilla's fault that Silverlight is crap. That small, insignificant issue comes nowhere near close to making Firefox a bad browser.

And you have some serious issues if all you use your web browser for is streaming Netflix.

Don't disagree with you (don't watch netflix on browser myself), but many people watch netflix religiously and it takes up most of their browser time. So you can't really discount that as a feasible usage, not to mention version 15 shouldn't have broken this in the first place.
