Fed-Ex vs UPS

i have seen a lot of people bash UPS than Fed-ex, perhaps because they are just bigger owners of market share - but my experience has been the opposite.

i find that fed-ex tracking is terribly slow once the package leaves its origin destination. for example, i have had many packages leave california to get to jersey, they will say thta they departed cali on say june 15th - and it will be june 20th before it updates that on june 18th the package got to jersey and has been sitting around for two days and then finally gets delivered the next day. heck, ive even had some separate packages now, having left california on the 4th, still not saying anything 5 days later on the 9th about where they are. i know that 2morrow, after being a week since they left, they will get delivered, and will have been in jersey close to my house for 3-4 days already.

UPS tracking does update itself faster than fed-ex almost across the board for me.

of course the packages are being delivered within the agreed 5-7 business days. so i cant complain about that - i am getting what i paid for.

but the beauty about UPS is even if i got regular ground shipping if the package got close to my house earlier, it got delivered. if it was in jersey 3 days after leaving cali, id have it on the 4th day or the LATEST the 5th day. ive never seen a UPS package sit at a warehouse for days when it could be on a truck for delivery because they knew they had 7 days.

both companies have been good with overnight and two-day services. i have never had a package damaged by either company. at this time both companies are just leaving packages outside with no wait for a signature for things they used to get signatures for in the past - i have not had anything stolen in my area, but i do not like this practice for expensive electronics.

i know i am one person, but my family and i almost exclusively shop online - so id say within the last bunch of years we have gotten a few hundred packages at least between 5 of us.

what are your experiences?

I don't care about the tracking as much as the actual handling of the package. As long as the tracking updates is says when it is out for delivery it works for me. UPS handling is by far the worst out of all the companies.

UPS is completely useless, I hate that company with a passion.

If my only option to ship something is UPS, I wont' even buy it.

Not one good experience.

Fedex or post office even > all

There is a reason why UPS is much stronger then their competitors. I doubt they would get as big as they are if they constantly mistreated their customers.

Simple logic, folks. Simple logic 🙂

I believe most people here do not use parcel carriers very often. This means that a small incident is blown way out of proportion if it happens. Some of us who rely on these companies as part of our business can see that they are actually very good at what they do. There are big differences in how each company operates once you get past the front-end.

never had a problem with UPS and that primarily how my stuff gets shipped. i've had everything from pc cases to books shipped to me. never have i had a damaged box or a lost package.

As far as receiving packages, I haven't had any problems with either, but I have received Fedex packages faster than what was paid for on a number of occasions, hardly ever from UPS.

For shipping items, Fedex Ground is cheaper than UPS, and sometimes faster.

i think its bandwagon jumping or something. there is no way you guys can have this many problems with UPS. if you do, i would seriously call up the local place or even corp. and complain. something has got to be wrong there.

Best Buy.... I just killed your argument.

Every UPS package I have ever received looks like it went through their Baghdad sort center. There is a reason I never have anything that is breakable sent through them. They once bent a rifle that was sent to me at a good 30 degree angle (wood and steel people).

I like FedEx much better personally.

Never had a problem with either UPS or Fedex, but between those two companies, UPS is slowwer by a day or two, but package arrives undamaged, which is good enough for me.

When I orderd some iPod shuffles I called up Apple and asked why my package was still in IL, they called up FedEx and told them that part of the new year they will be scanning less to quicken the shipping process.

Why would a firearms dealer ever ship a rifle in anything but a hard case? UPS didn't screw you, the shipper did.

Are you comparing UPS Ground to Fedex Express Saver?

Apples and oranges..... Argument is back on.

Just ordered a new digi cam this morning and I certainly made sure it shipped FedEx.

I've had nothing but problems with UPS. Packages arriving late, as in ordered it UPS 2nd Day and got it after 4 days. From New Jersey to Michigan WTF?! And to boot it was damaged.

Everything I've ordered UPS has come damaged. My mom is the CEO of a small group of Credit Unions they ALWAYS try and ship FedEx because they've consistently been faster and less damage to their packages.

I will pay more for FedEx if it means my package comes without damage. Period.

I've personally never had a problem with either company. I worked at a shipping place for 2 years and the only problem we ever had with UPS was a damaged painting, which was our fault. We had numerous problems with Fedex Ground, as their drivers like to skip pickup days and not drop off packages for weeks to remote locations.

The large distributors don't typically ship (especially surplus weapons) in hard cases. What they did to that rifle would likely have broken anything short of an aluminum hard case anyway.

UPS is just the cool thing to bash these days. Microsoft bashing has lost it's luster, and Sony bashing is getting tiresome.

People like to assume their own single personal experience extends out to everyone at all times.

I think it's more people are willing to bash if they have a bad experience. e.g a damaged package or a package arriving late.

If my personal experience is getting F'ed in the A the majority of times I use them, it's going to color my opinion and effect my future choices.

Unless you missed the memo Starbucks it the fashonable bash bandwagon currently. *takes sip from S$ cup*

4 days after you received tracking number or 4 days after you placed the order? you do know that the place you ordered from might have been slow to ship it, right?

I've never had a problem with either one myself, I think both are fine. If I have to pick, I'd go with Fedex for convenience - I know that Kinko's ships with Fedex and to use UPS I'd have to go somewhere else.

4 days after I received a tracking number from UPS.
