A fed ex plane just crashed on landing in Memphis, TN. Doesn't look to bad. One of the wings is burned. Body looks good. Landing gear failed. Packages probably not damaged. (Seattle to Memphis flight)

May be delays in other planes since Memphis is the Fex Ex hub.

If the gear failed, the stuff inside got quite a jolt when the body hit the ground... though I mean at least it didn't explode or something.

I assume nobody was injured?

With as big as Fedex's hub is in Memphis I'd say your package is fine. Remember that Memphis is now the world's largest cargo airport in the world.

A neat video of Fedex operations during a storm.

I feel like a (bigger) nerd for watching that.

Type of plane?
My cousin is a pilot for FedEx - I think he's on 767s on an asian route, but I'm not sure.

As far as I know, Fedex doesn't use 767s. Are you sure it's not an MD-11 to Asia?

Very cool - thanks!

There is another great video out there that has one day of Fedex operations in the US. It's really amazing to see hundreds of planes flying around.

He used to be on 747s, but I think the've been phasing those out in favor of 767 or 777 on the long haul routes. It's been awhile since I talked to him though. Very sure it's not MD11s though.

No 777s for Fed Ex either; would you like to try again?

Is it an Airbus A300 maybe?

Correct, no 777. Fedex owns:

53 Airbus A300-600s
17 Boeing DC10-30s
65 Airbus A310-200/300s
41 Boeing MD10-10s
11 ATR 72s
6 Boeing MD10-30s
29 ATR 42s
58 Boeing MD11s
13 Boeing 727-100s
10 Cessna 208As
94 Boeing 727-200s
243 Cessna 208Bs
25 Boeing DC10-10s
9 Fokker F-27s

I believe most are former pax planes. Fedex buys them for ultra-cheap and refurbs them. BTW, they have an open order for A380s, as well.

Very good :D

On a side note, did you know that the USPS is one of Fed Ex's biggest customers?
