Feature Suggestion

I think it would be awesome if AT had a feature that allowed for you to be emailed ( or even PM'd ) if a thread was posted with a specifiable word or phrase in the title. Just as an example.. 😉 Say I wanted an excellent deal on a "printer". It would be soooo nice if I could be emailed the instant a thread was posted in the Hot Deals forum for a "printer" rather than sift through the threads every hour so that I don't miss out on an excellent deal. Any chance of it happening? Or does anyone know of a program/service that can do this?

hmm... imagines what would happen if a couple of peopel specified "and", "a" and "the" as search words... funny!

problem is that it would be too hard to filter

We thought of this months ago, but its not going to happen. It's entirely too load intensive for any machine to handle, with this amount of users using the forums. That would mean every time a post is made the db would have to go find out what keywords you are interested in then search the message for them..then email you. Yeah right 😉 The image of a big mushroom cloud comes to mind.

How about a master list (20-50 items)

Printer
Monitor
CD-RW
Media
Desk

Such a solution would greatly reduce load. Even if some kind of script parsed the database every 5-20 minutes it should be sufficient. Real time would be too resource intensive.
